Maybe this is why Congress has such a bad rep & we’re in such deep sneakers – misplaced priorities

washington_redskins_logo_4016With a miasmia not seen since the Carter Presidency, you’d think that those elected to Congress would actually attend to those things of national / world level.  We’re still at war, our allies are running away from us, our enemies are laughing at us, the economy is in the tank with unprecedented levels of labor UN-participation, a majority of folks believe the country is in bad shape, a military that is being hollowed out, and a President that leads from behind as he’s not only transforming America, he’s doing it by taking over Congress’ responsibility.  With an almost  New Normal of Misplaced Priorities, what do two CongressCritters believe is the best use of their time?  Not the above things, but things like what a football team is named: the Washington Redskins

The Oneida Nation wants it changed, the Political Correct Shut’er Uppers, and the Professional Outraged all want to do all they can to force a change to something they don’t own.  Really – don’t like the name?  Ante up the selling price and you too can own a pro team – and change the name to your heart’s content.  But not willing to put their money where their mouths are, Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and US Rep. Tom Cole (R-Ok) (many times, buttinski-ness knows no Party boundary – or decency).  Instead, they decided with their lofty titles (instead of taking care of their own business – at which they are failing, IMHO) to put their noses where they don’t belong.

Well, it turns out that the owner of the team, Synder, is getting real tired of other people telling him to “think right” and let off a “mind yer own biz first” corker  as he is refusing to bow to their notion of Political Correctness – and spanks Cantwell for her hypocrisy as well (emphasis mine):

“As the former Chair of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, Senator Cantwell should be aware that there are many challenges facing Native Americans, including an extremely cold winter with high energy bills, high unemployment, life threatening health problems, inadequate education and many other issues more pressing than the name of a football team which has received strong support from Native Americans.

If the Senator wants us to change our team name, has she already told that to the team named ‘Redskins’ in Wellpinit, Wash., where the school’s population is more than 90 percent Native American? We hope Senator Cantwell has visited with those students in order to hear their thoughts. We hope Senator Cantwell is aware how upset the students in Port Townsend were when they were forced to change their name.

In an ESPN report on Sept. 18, 2013, Tim Ames, the superintendent of Wellpinit schools stated, ‘I’ve talked to our students, our parents and our community about this and nobody finds any offense at all in it. Redskins is not an insult to our kids. ‘Wagon burners’ is an insult. ‘Prairie n—–s’ is an insult. Those are very upsetting to our kids. But ‘Redskins’ is an honorable name we wear with pride… In fact, I’d like to see somebody come up here and try to change it.’

Finally, why did Senator Cantwell send her letter to the New York Times before she had the courtesy of sending it to the NFL? No one other than a politician does that.

Surely, with all the issues Congress is supposed to work on such as the economy, jobs, war and health care, the Senator must have more important things to do.”

She does – they all do.  It is just that they don’t want to face the REAL tough decisions, so they make and blow up lesser things to make it seem to be “Congressional worthy”.  But when the NFL has the results of a poll that says 8 of 10 respondents have said to leave the name alone, how about this – take care of the National debt, the protection of our borders, putting our Individual Liberties and Freedom foremost and staying your governance to that limited by the Constitution.  Do those things, do them well if not even spectacularly.  Then, and only then, leave stuff like names to us, the People.  Trust me, we can do this.  You go do what we elected you to do – and this ain’t it.

These chuckleheads really  have nothing better to do with the money we pay?
