Duck-Gate! Commissioner Thomas Pappas Resigns

Kimberly Houghton at The Union Leader is reporting that Nashua Police Commissioner Thomas Pappas has submitted his resignation.

“He regrets greatly his role and the events of Dec. 23,” Attorney Jim Rosenberg said of Pappas. “He is deeply saddened by the fact that he is resigning his post now.”

This news comes just two days after Granite Grok reported the possibility that Commissioner Pappas, who is also a lawyer, may have violated rules of Conduct for attorneys in New Hampshire as set out by the State Supreme Court.

Two Nashua Aldreman had previously requested that Pappas step down after details of his involvement in the escape of Nashua House Democrat David Campbell, who after “a few drinks” mowed down some ducks while moving is BMW to the hotel parking garage, and then ran off on foot to avoid police.  Campbell called Pappas, who swept him away, hid him in an undisclosed location to dry out, and then contacted police for him, ensuring he would be sober before having to speak with anyone.

Campbell has not indicated, to our knowledge, where Pappas took him,  nor has he admitted that leaving the scene when he knew police had been called and were on route, is something the rest of us would catch hell for.

And I remind you, that the Commissioner is resigning because he regrets his role in the events of Dec. 23.  That may just mean he regets getting caught, but it is still an admission that there were ‘events,’ and that they were serious enough that one person, so far, has had to resign.
