An observation, a question, and THE answer. Like what I’ve been saying for a while.

Ron Christie at The Daily Beast has the observation:

In the past few weeks, I’ve noticed a widening rift between the Republican establishment and the Tea Party activists who swept John Boehner into the House Speaker seat and put Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell within striking distance of a majority to effectively cement President Obama’s lame duck status.

And the question:

In conversations with members of Congress, lobbyists, and the chattering class on television–none of whom wished to speak on the record–many grassroots activists would rather take out an incumbent GOP officeholder in a primary challenge for perceived disloyalty to the base at the cost of Democrats winning the seat. That this switch of support by grassroots activists would occur less than four years after the GOP rode a massive wave of voter disillusionment with Washington is fascinating. The question is, what was the triggering event that created hostility between many conservative members of Congress and their constituents who elected them?

And the ANSWER (spoiler – been saying this for a while):   1) They want someone to stand up and FIGHT for their values, their political values…

“I think the thing that set many of these groups off was the repeated promises by [House Majority Leader] Cantor and [Senate Minority Leader] McConnell to repeal Obamacare. When the time came to fight, they caved to the Democrats and told us they would fight hard the next time. Total B.S. that we’re not buying anymore.”

…and they are seeing pitiful few willing to do so.  They are tired of hearing “bipartisanship” and “compromise”; each time they do, they realize it is code for “we’re too scared to fight for our constituents’ Values when we possibly could loose our political careers”.  Each time they hear that, they see the Country, yet again, make that incremental step away from being a Constitutional Republic, where Individual Liberties and Freedoms were the highest priorities, and slouching towards Socialism.

2) Trust, Consistency – absent.  Votes – soon to be absent

What I do know is that a breach of trust has occurred between grassroots activists across the country with the Republican Leadership in the House and Senate. What was once a happy collaboration united to defeating Democrats and Obama’s agenda has turned into a nascent civil war for control of the Republican Party and the conservative movement.

As Macguire aptly noted, “This could be the cycle pitting those who believe that winning is important coming head to head against those who believe holding firm to principle is important.” It would be a sad day for our democracy if winning elective office and holding firm on principle weren’t one and the same.

That sad day already came, sir.  Here’s the hint for idiot Elites: If the Republican Party had actually acted according to their Principles, the TEA Party would never have come into existence.  Think about that – hard.  If the Party had been Consistent the last couple of decades, the spontaneous uprising we’ve seen the last 5 years would never have happened.  Nor this current battle – but those at the top decided to take those of us at the bottom for granted.  Now those at the top may now find out, the hard way, that we aren’t gonna take that anymore.  If our Principles aren’t front and center, yours aren’t going to either as they run contrary to ours.

Those in the GOP leadership would be wise to bridge the gap of trust between their base before conservatives form a circular firing squad that kills their chances at victory in November.

What have I been saying for a while?  Consistency yields Trust = Votes.  What is now happening is Retribution driven by the constant backhainding by those in charge (“vote for us, then shut up!”).  Here is what the Elites, be they National or State level, seem to be unable to comprehend: No longer will the base accept “But the Democrats will win if you don’t vote Republican” whine.

With what we are seeing from the bottom up, with Republicans like this:

  • National: DC Republicans will cave on the debt ceiling and allow more spending to happen along with a larger government, allowing Obama to be the Unitary President (Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary – just look at how he just rewrites the Obamacare Law at his will & whim), and vote for Amnesty (ignoring The Rule of Law)
  • State (in a number of states, including NH) – choosing to join Obama in extending socialism via Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion

who needs these Republicans?  We may not win in replacing you, but you may well not win either.  Do you have the ability left to choose wisely?  Remember: You have brought us upon us; you have made us not to care.
