Obamacare: forced Govt dependency built-in. Again.

Obamacare -Year of the SnakeYet another sad story on the results of Obamacare on families.  Somewhere in here, I did a post where a single mom (grown daughter) had to buy a new policy as Obama & Sebelius decided that the healthcare policy that the Mom had was “junk”.  No, this Mom was not judged capable of picking a plan that was suitable and affordable for her – Progressives are convinced that none of us can choose wisely.  She wanted to continue to be self-responsible and self-supporting and in doing so, continue that self-esteem that “I can be independent, pay my own way, and be self-reliant”.  Obama & Sebelius’s policies decided otherwise – their “socialist Potemkin marketplace” immediately clapped her into the Government jail of Medicaid – one way in and no way out.  They took away her self-esteem by telling her that they know that she can no longer support herself and gave her only their option – Government healthcare.

Now, another story.  I’ve been writing for years about the school systems / teachers / Govt believing that your kids really do belong to them: feed them 3 squares a day in school (even when schools are closed), clothe them, provide daycare for them in school, provide healthcare clinics for them in school, and take them out of school for abortions if they feel one is needed.   Now on the flip side, the Obama Administration has jiggered the rules so that parents that want to take care of their kids and provide for their kids healthcare wise, can’t.  So these parents must “give up” their kids to the government (reformatted, emphasis mine):

…Zack is married with children and self-employed. That used to be a rough row to hoe for insurance purposes. Now it’s an impossible one.  In the past, Zack had somehow managed to insure his family under Washington’s stringent insurance requirement regime, which had chased away many insurers and bid up premiums. It was expensive to cover his family but he worked hard and they found a way.  Obamacare presented them with special difficulties. Zack thought he was going to have to pay several hundred dollars more a month for roughly the same level of coverage for him and his wife, before you even factored in the kids. They didn’t have the money for it.

Zack finally managed to insure himself and the missus for roughly what they pay now, for an Obamacare-compliant plan with a $6,000-plus deductible. That should come in handy if one of them is struck by a car. Other expenses will have to be covered out of pocket, costing them more.

Less coverage for more money.  What Obamacare is forcing is an environment whereby citizens get to pay high monthly fees in order pay the whole bill anyways.  Obama is fine with ordinary folks paying way more than necessary for what are nothing more than catastrophic plans would cover.  Yes, the retributional redistribution strategy he’s always wanted to impose on the rich – where “rich” actually starts in the middle class.  And then the sad, sad part:

As for the kids, Zack couldn’t swing it. He had to sign them up for a highly subsidized public plan offered by the state. “Under Obamacare, I went from being a successful, self-sustaining small businessman,” Zack told me, disdainfully, “to now signing my kids up as dependents of the state.

And that seems to be the overall goal; as Glen Reynolds keeps saying, the purpose is to make beggars of us all (easy to control).  After all, if one is paying $1,000 / month or more just in premiums, and full boat costs for any actual medical costs because of high deductibles, what do you think the entrepreneurial rate is going to do for folks that used to come out of the middle class and start those new businesses?   How will these folks be able to ever save up enough to be sufficiently capitalized to start up something new?

…But it seems striking and perverse to me now that the Obama administration considers Zack’s story a success story…In Obamacare’s eyes, the kids are covered and thus not a problem. In their parents’ eyes, it’s quite different. Mom and Dad are shrugging off some of the financial burden of their children onto the backs of taxpayers not because they want to do so but because they are left with no other practical alternative.

And there no more complicated reason for this is that their Government has done this directly to Zack and his family.  And government doesn’t care what this does to Zack and others like him – that Government have put them into the situation where they can no longer provide for their families.  There is no more devastating blow to a husband and father, the provider and protector for his family, than to no longer take care of his family.

It wasn’t the family dynamics that did this.  It was not a downturn in the economy that did this.  This was not a bad biz bet or decision that did this.

This was Obama and His Pack of Progressives that did this – taking away a man’s dignity because they “believe” they know Zack’s needs (from DC) than he does.  Take away his Freedom?  Take away his choice?  Make life more difficult?  You bet.

And now you know the difference between Progressives and TEA Party types – Progressives “know” they know best for every and blithely make more and more decisions for the rest of us, knowing that we are incapable of making the right decisions.  TEA Party?  We know that far away Government apparatchiks cannot know what is best for all (or even most) – that the people who know what is best for them is those folks themselves.

A Free Society and a Free People can make decisions for themselves.  We are no longer Free when others do so instead. Especially when it comes to our kids.
