Massachusetts state Rep Carlos Henriquez (D) must have his eye on the speaker’s chair. He’s serving six months of ‘practice’ in a Billerica jail cell. Henriquez was convicted for backhanding, punching, and choking a girlfriend, but refuses to resign.
The Boston Herald is reporting that the Massachusetts House is trying to get him to resign, but if he continues to refuse, they insist he will be removed.
Michael Graham is not so sure.
As I said at the time, there is no reason for Henriquez to resign. Beacon Hill liberals aren’t likely to stand up to a “The Man is putting me down!” defense, particularly when the last three speakers of the house in a row are convicted felons.
*I’d like to know where all the national press attention is on this story? Justin Beiber drag races drunk and you can’t escape that story for days. If it were a Republican state rep the DCCC and DNC would be fundraising on it. But when a Massachusetts Democrat launches a one-man war on women without warning, gets convicted, and is trying to serve his constituents from prison….nothing.
