How about THESE Democrat Senators – as role models, are they showing that they respect the Constitution?

e-cigarette with womanAGAIN???   Don’t they ever think of this FIRST?  the First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Arrgghh (reformatted, emphasis mine):

Senators want awards show to be free of e-cigarettes

Following Sunday’s primetime broadcast of the Golden Globes that featured images of celebrities smoking electronic cigarettes, a group of Democratic senators are pressing for future broadcasts of the awards show to be smoke — and vapor — free. Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Edward Markey of Massachusetts on Tuesday pressed Golden Globes’ broadcaster NBC Universal and the show’s sponsor, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, to promise that future broadcasts refrain from showing the so-called e-cigarettes and, by doing so, avoid the “glamorization of smoking and protect the health of young fans.”

“Throughout the country and the world, people tune in to watch fashionable actors on the red carpet, enjoy the show, and root for their favorite films and actors,” said the senators’ statement. “Unfortunately, this year, many young viewers saw notable displays of e-cigarette use throughout the awards show, including the opening monologue and repeated shots of celebrities smoking e-cigarettes.”

Look, it doesn’t MATTER whether you like real smoking or breathing out the water vapor from e-cigs or not.  Sure, smoking ‘s bad for you – we’ve been hearing that since the 60s from the Surgeon General and they were called “coffin nails” well before that.  And e-cigs are just a drug (nicotine) delivery mechanism.  But once again, can’t we expect that US Senators would first think of the Constitution that they swore fealty to before assuming office?  Instead, we seem them abusing the power of their office and intimidate private citizens.  Anyone notice that the networks were the object of their ire – and not the actors and actresses?  I guess that’s because there is no Federal licensing for them – while there is for broadcast licenses.  Nice thing to see – pablum politicians throwing their weight around, officio.

Or are we seeing (continue to see) the advent of Little Obamas?  He doesn’t need the Congress; maybe they, in turn, believe they can forget the Constitution?

Lawlessness – the fish rots from the head down.
