Cold of Biblical Proportions – Nature Conspires Against Warmists

SolarCycle-NASA“The Farmers’ Almanac is using words like “piercing cold,” “bitterly cold” and “biting cold” to describe the upcoming winter”, wrote Michael Snyder, who also pointed out that Solar activity is at a 100 year low, and that this (2013) supposed peak year of the current cycle has been a damp squib, resembling the Maunder Minimum.

Indeed, it seems to me that recent trends in solar cycles are tending toward lower activity, and that could be important in light of recent research, which showed that a reduction in Solar activity and the Solar Wind leads to increased penetration of Cosmic Rays into the Solar System, and an accompanying increase in cloud formation, and….. cooling.

Volcano-Eruption-2013-FreedomOutpostBut wait, there’s more: As Steve pointed out a few months ago, cloud formation is also driven by particulates and aerosols (a fancy way of saying soot and acid from coal burning and vehicle exhausts), and he noted that cleaner air was leading to less clouds and more warming (Oh, the irony for Environmentalists).

It turns out, though that Man’s puny emissions, and equally puny cleanup attempts, are as nothing beside a good volcanic eruption for dumping soot and acid into the atmosphere, and guess what? Volcanic eruptions have also been setting records this year, and there is a long historical record correlating major eruptions with colder winters for a few years. (That’s why the nuclear doomsday worriers were so concerned about a ‘Nuclear Winter’, caused by all the dust and debris.)

Putting it all together, we have increased volcanic activity leading to less sunlight and more clouds, accompanied by more Cosmic Rays, also triggering an increase in cloud formation, and we are setting ourselves up for some chilly winters, and maybe a mini-ice-age if Solar activity remains disappointing for a few cycles.
