The Realities of DemocratCare…. or ‘They Don’t Call us “The Right!” For Nothing.’ Part XI

Charles Krauthammer Washington PostThe-Nanny-State

Beyond mendacity, there is liberal paternalism, of which these forced cancellations are a classic case. We canceled your plan, explained presidential spokesman Jay Carney, because it was substandard. We have a better idea.

Translation: Sure, you freely chose the policy, paid for the policy, renewed the policy, liked the policy. But you’re too primitive to know what you need. We do. Your policy is hereby canceled.

Because what you really need is what our experts have determined must be in every plan. So a couple in their 60s must buy maternity care. A teetotaler must buy substance abuse treatment. And a healthy 28-year-old with perfectly appropriate catastrophic insurance must pay for bells and whistles for which he has no use.

What the left wants it must do by force.  They hide this by blaming others either for their need to use force in the first place or for the failure that results from their use of force, problems that can only be resolved (in the Democrat mind) with the use of even more force.  (In this context ‘force’ is law, mandate, regulations, fines, taxes, fees, edicts, proclamations, executive orders, and expansion of the police state to deploy/enforce/punish; anything that empowers government interest to modify the behavior of citizens.)

Nothing speaks to this truth more than Democrat NH House Rep Laura Pantelakos, in an unguarded moment, blurting out what she truly believes, and what the Democrat party believes, when it comes to the role of government and its application in advancing the Democrat agenda.

“I don’t care about protecting people’s liberty.”

Governments are only formed to ensure mutual protection of persons and property or…to oppress people and abuse property for the benefit of a ruling class.

Laura Pantelakos, the Modern Democrat Party, and the Obama Administration are all governing as the latter.  They are more interested in protecting and expanding the state and their own influence.  They are more interested in expansion of the state than what affects this expansion will have on the rights or persons or property.

Government is no longer a free association entered into to secure the best possible environment for success (for those willing to seek it) it is an association by force with rules dictated by an aristocracy of bureaucrats and functionaries empowered to do whatever it must to its’ citizens to ensure that government is forever expanding in size and reach.

Democrats do not seem to know or care that theirs has not only been the most common form of government in human history but that it has created the prolonged poverty, misery, and ruling class corruption, from which we had only briefly escaped since the American revolution.  Since the establishment of the Constitutional Republic, and the formation of a government of laws applied equally to all for the sole purpose of protecting life, liberty, and property, more people have risen out of poverty than at any point in human history, the majority of them doing so deliberately through their own hard work and perseverance.   These circumstances were only made possibly by dumping the modern democrat parties preferred form of government–the one where the pencil pushers, elected, appointed, or hired, “don’t care about protecting liberty.”

Which explains the lefts hatred for the TEA Party.

The TEA Party, Conservatives, more than a few Republicans, even a few old-school Democrats, the founders, anyone who understand the basic foundation for eliminating poverty, providing an opportunity for economic freedom and prosperity–property rights and rule of law–knows that an expanding government, regardless of intentions, leads to a state more focused on the state than on why it was started in the first place.

The Patriots have sought the reduction of the central government, the returning of sovereign rights to states, and less taxation and regulation because these things empower people to try things that a centrally planned state cannot allow.  To innovate in ways at a pace that a massive bureaucracy could never manage.  And to provide for real needs, motivated by a desire to control your own destiny, even if you must fail repeatedly on the path to success.

ObamaCare is by far the largest modern example of government regulated failure (though stimulus, Dodd-Frank, Cash for clunkers, regulation leading up to the banking collapse, and other examples rank a close second, third, and so on–all recent Democrat innovations on their socialist-America assembly line.)  But ObamaCare was an idea that would never work if the goal was better, cheaper, or faster, an idea plotted out by an infinite number of left-wing rent-seekers, and ruling class near-do-wells, typing away on an infinite number of keyboards, to create the Titanic of bills, whose failure was per-ordained by design but whose defense made trench warfare look like a friendly game of chess.

No price was too high.

The end result is a lesson repeated throughout history and ignored; the ruling-class progressives on the professional left rob you of the fruits of your labor and then punish you with their vision; to mandate and regulate failure in pursuit of dictating behavior through a centrally planned economy whose husbandry salts the fields and inevitably kills the orchard upon which it feeds to survive.

But it always starves you first.

What you want or need is irrelevant, and this brings me back to Krauthammer.

The modern Democrat agenda is ideologically incompatible with any definition of freedom or liberty.  Personal responsibility and free markets are antithetical to the goal of the central planner.  ObamaCare is just a massive expression of control over our property by controlling our bodies and our behavior relevant to them.  As far as the left is concerned if they have to break a few lives to make that crap and cheese omelet, so be it.
