Stupidest NH Headline of the Day - Granite Grok

Stupidest NH Headline of the Day

And the newly crowned owner of this dubious award (or, at least, the owner of  the byline to which it is attached) is John DiStaso of the Union Leader.  I’ve gone back and looked at it several times over the day, still scratching my head over it:

NH still operating despite federal shutdown

Was this a sigh of relief?  Or a total jaw dropping reaction of surprise?  Or (especially if one is totally convinced that only Biggest Govt is able to care for us little people) a jaw dropping disappointment that perhaps the High Church of the Alter of Almighty Gubmint didn’t really matter much?  That things

think about – er, maybe we can get along without it?

I woke up, did my daily ablutions, let the dog out, fired up computers, and reached for the first can of Mt. Dew.  And THEN I realized that only my local Town Government, my smallish County Government, and my smallish State Government lay between me and utter destruction.  Er, at least, according to the Statists and Progressives that believe that we are successful only if our Government is successful.  That we are “protected” only if they “protect” Government – and the more centralized it is, the better it is.

Me? I kept thinking of that phrase that Texas Governor Rick Perry said at the start of his Prez campaign:

“My goal is to make Washington as inconsequential to your daily life as possible”

That’s the way it should be – in the background and leaving us alone.  In such a scenario, life SHOULDN’T change much for the ordinary citizen.  So I looked at that headline and went “yeah?  Did I REALLY expect otherwise”?  No, I didn’t.  People have normal lives and most are not directly impacted by government every day.  Triple that for Washington.  I bet even Progressives here in NH, much to their dismay, went about their normal daily living (unless of course, they have made themselves so dependent upon Government that it would be giving them a bad hair day).

Dependency vs Self-Reliance.  What state of being do you wish to be in?  One gives you freedom and one chains your future to something / someone else’s decisions.

Government is, contrary to Liberals everywhere, not the name for the stuff “we all do together”.  And no, contrary to they said at their latest National Convention (“Government is the only thing we all belong to” ), I do not belong to Government (although with Obamacare’s rules that any significant life change, income change, or household change, we are supposed to “OBEY” Government – the new equivalent of “show me your papers!” – Progressives are trying to turn the Land of the Free into  a totalitarian Neo-Feudal Society ruled by the New Apparatchik).  Rather, Government is the word “for the stuff we pay we want others to do on our behalf” – employees and not Masters.

No, Mr. DiStaso; maybe YOU are still living in disbelief that New Hampshire citizens are acting normally.  What you, and other Statists forget, is that for centuries, we citizens lived without Big Government very well indeed.  We can again.  After all, Man’s greatest strength is adaptability.

Anarchist?  No – only in comparison to Progressives that would be happy to have someone in Government being right next to us all the time – even in hour homes.

Oh WAIT?  Didn’t that start a war a bit ago?
