Spin

clockwork_orange - Shutdown spinObserve the Spin.

Harry Reid has blocked every budget for four years running.  The Democrat Senate has obstructed every effort to manage the fiscal needs of the nation in an orderly manner.  The only things that get action are politically driven, press-headline grabbing, last minute, temporary resolutions and machinations about raising the debt ceiling.

While most Republicans in DC suck on the budget they have at least tried to follow the law.  They have passed budgets.  They have moved bills to the Senate.  They have sought committees of conference to work out differences.  In the latter case, they have consistently caved and given Democrats what they wanted.  But Reid didn’t even want to talk to them.  Obama doesn’t want to talk to them.  They just want the shutdown.

Democrats want the shutdown because for the last few weeks they have been planning, managing how they will sell a shutdown in the press and how much it can be made to affect (see laso – hurt) regular Americans.  They may already have a plan in a drawer, waiting to be executed.  They are not trying to work out how to limit any potential discomfort.  They are not looking to ease the burden while the House and Senate find a compromise.  If they do not get their way, all of the way, they will  look for ways to punish the citizenry, magnify (rhetorically and in actuality) any discomfort they can, so that they may then blame it on their opponents with some expectation that you will carry that vindictive seed in your heart and punish Republicans at the next election.

There is no pursuit of happiness under such a government, only a series of discomforts to then blame on political opponents.
