A Party of Pastels – yeah, that will motivate the base (the cowards)

WMURThe conservative base is looking for STRONG candidates – those that know the issues, those that have actual stances of granite built on solid philosophy (instead of dingleberry type positions that flapped in every political wind / event that comes along), and those can inspire them that they will do what they say and keep their promises.  Love’em or hate’em, folks like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee certainly know the issues and have crafted their stances.

And NO ONE can say that they are, or have, failed to keep their promises to those that “brung them to the dance”.  They said what they would do and they are doing in.  Bold, Bright Colors.

New Hampshire conservative voters should be so lucky!  Looking at this headline from Pindell’s site is not giving me confidence – are we damned with only faintness (and take that anyway you want):

“GOP candidates for House, Senate avoiding standing with Cruz or Ayotte on debt deal”

When I first became political active a decade ago, a long term Republican back bencher told me “Be quiet, don’t make waves, be willing to compromise – and you might get something done”.  Yeah, that held well – next election, he got wiped out – having done very little in his career besides having a title of “Honorable” (which I generally disagree with – simply being a politician does not make one “honorable” – only one’s actions do).  And now we have another crop of the same will o’ wisps?  What happened to the Granite based folks on the Right?

In his post, Pindell rightly takes the announced GOP candidates to task (emphasis mine, reformatted):

You know where the Democrats running for reelection next year stand on the deal that ended the government shutdown and raised the debt ceiling this week. You also also know where Republican U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte stands on the deal. All four voted for it.  But you’d be hard-pressed to figure out where Republicans running against them next year stand on what amounted to be one of the most important votes this session and something that will certainly be discussed and debated during the campaign next year.

And Here. We. Start!  EVERY Republican should be asking these chuckleheads: WHY THE SILENCE?  WHY the WIMP demeanors?

After asking repeatedly whether 1st District Republican candidate Frank Guinta or 2nd District Republican candidate Gary Lambert would vote yes or no, their shared spokesman Ethan Zorphas responded that they were “not commenting on hypotheticals.”

Yo, Ethan – that’s a dodge and you know it.  THAT’S A COWARD’S response – and I ain’t ever voting for a coward again.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jim Rubens took the same tactic. He issued a statement that didn’t take a specific position. A Rubins spokesman said, “I can’t answer your question specifically, because there is not a scenario where Jim would have been dropped into the Senate right before the vote.”

Taking a position, apparently, is something these candidates stepping up for office believe they don’t have to show voters, at least until the fall out and the polling ends. For Republican candidates, in particular, the question is tricky given that members of their party are split on the issue. Ayotte was for the bill, while Republican Sen. Ted Cruz was against it.

Guinta’s primary opponent, Dan Innis, sent a statement moments after the vote, but that also wasn’t clear on how exactly he would have voted. When asked, though, the Innis campaign gave a simple “yes.”

Every single damn one of them – not a single one is will to commit on what is the most important issue of the day, why should we?  WHY in God’s green earth should we vote for you  when you give us nothing but platitudes???  If you can’t give an answer to a simple question – you actually answer a different and far more important question:

WHAT KIND OF POLITICAL COWARD ARE YOU??

If you can’t stand up tall during the campaign, this tells us that we can’t expect you to stand tall for us in DC.  If you aren’t willing to take the heat now, this tells us that we can expect you to simply wilt under the pressure of the money guys, the special interests, and the DC Kool-Aid bringers.  If you can’t take a stand, this  tells us that once your hand is on that button, we should not have any expectations of Consistency.

No Consistency?  No Trust.  Not telling me where you stand shows a disdain for me and my desire to send someone that will represent ME.  And why should I cast a Vote for someone that so visibly shows contempt for what I feel to be important.  Reagan said we needed BOLD colors – clear distinctions.  You all are a muddled mess (and barely differentiated from the beige pool on the white counter you have placed yourselves).

Who amongst you will get a grip stand up – and have the courage to stand tall out of that shallow puddle you all decided to create?
