If the Vietnamese Communists have learned this lesson, what is taking so long with ours?

After all, Progressivism is merely incremental Socialism, and Socialism (according to the Communists), is merely a step on the road to Communism (their say-so, and I have no reason to disbelieve them given their actions).  Anyways, this from Powerline is very instructive, as young skulls full of mush are now returning to the places that seemingly seem to house the kindred spirits of those that, pretty much, hate the ideals that kick-started this nation (e.g., that Individuals should be in charge of themselves and not looked upon as mere cogs in a social machine (at best) or mere wards of the State:

In Vietnam, still run by the Communist Party, the very selective national university is offering free tuition to anyone who signs up for the university’s curriculum in Marxism. They’ve had to offer free tuition because no students have been signing up for these courses, as in zero. I can’t help but be amused that the market-clearing price for courses in radical philosophy is lower in a Communist university than in American universities.

In other words,

the Harvard / MIT (or given Obama, Columbia / Occidental) of Viet Nam, can’t even GIVE a class away in Marxism, the ruling philosophy for the country – ‘magine that!  We fought a war there to keep the Northern communists at bay from the South.  We were succeeding militarily, but lost the political will, in part, to an asymmetric political / info warfare that moved to the political sphere here in the US which succeed.  A communistic system won, and then right on track, failed economically to bring about that vaunted Workers’ Paradise.  A system doomed to failure no matter where it is tried and no matter what Smart People try to implement it.

Their leaders saw this, and with much gnashing of teeth, moved to a more capitalistic system (at least economically).  Much of the Vietnamese have now, obviously, seen the light after having to live under such a Communist system (hmm, those folks I’ve met that came from Easter bloc countries have said the same thing and can’t understand why or how our headlong rush to such a system is happening, given our Constitution: “Why do the politicians ignore it??”.

Yet, the Socialist / Communists here in this country never accept the failures abundantly seen in recent history, nor are willing to see the horrible toll, not just in lives wasted in a useless effort, but lives lost outright from the likes of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and others of that ilk.  They continue to cry out “Fairness!” yet refuse to see the plain death that they wish to bring.  And then inculcate OUR young’uns that our way is a crime against humanity even as those that have lived it, throw off its yokes.  Has anyone ever asked these anti-capitalist anti-freedomists “hey, go and work there, not in their version of the Ivory Tower, but as an ordinary worker?”

Sadly, we may have to learn the lesson the hard way.  Which means that we may be in for far more hard times ahead.
