Er, no. - Granite Grok

Er, no.

A non-starter, or should be, for anyone who actually thinks that there really is a purpose to the NH GOP Platform (and by-laws) as opposed to the Gene Chandler Theorem of Being a Republican (“Any Republican that helps us regain power is a good Republican“).  From DiStaso today – what does Brad Cook believe (potential and erstwhile candidate for NH Governor)?  And, most important to the grassroots,  how would Brad Cook fare when measured against the standard of what a Good Republican is suppose to typify – the  NH GOP Platform (quotes from it are bolded):

  • Refuses to take the Pledge to veto a state sales or income tax.

Which if enacted, either a sales or income tax would definitely cause Government to grow as most Establishment Republicans (re: remember the gas tax raise?) and Democrats seemingly forget that the ability to tax more ALWAYS ends up in bigger government, not limited.

We’d be New Jersey (who put in an income tax to lessen the property taxes – how’d that work out for them?)!  So what does the NH GOP Platform say about that?

  • We, the people of the New Hampshire Republican Party, do stand united in our dedication to preserving freedom, limited government and unlimited opportunity for all
  • Strongly oppose new taxes and fees, including an income, sales or capital gains tax
  • We believe that low taxes are the result of low spending; that government has a moral obligation to the people to be as cost effective as possible, to always limit spending and growth of government, and to cut spending and cost of government at every possible turn.
  • Strongly oppose new taxes and fees, including an income, sales or capital gains tax

And then pig piles onto himself with:

  • He said he has not, and would not necessarily, “call for” an income tax, but would not rule it out either.

If you are wishy-washy on this political issue, the biggest one in NH politics, WHY would I want to give you a second look (as opposed to merely staring as in “oh, THAT guy that wishes to relieve me of more of my private property than some Democrats would want to?”)?

  • Strongly oppose new taxes and fees, including an income, sales or capital gains tax

A Republican would be looking to CUT spending, not enhancing revenues

  • “I’m not sure our revenue system is the most rational one in the world, and we ought to take a look at it,” he said.

And that plays against this…..how?

  • We believe that low taxes are the result of low spending; that government has a moral obligation to the people to be as cost effective as possible, to always limit spending and growth of government, and to cut spending and cost of government at every possible turn.

And then a virtual unlocking  throwing open exploding the doorframe and hinges off the revenue door to Big Government / Big Statists everywhere – Democrats should be campaigning FOR him for this!

  • After our Cook report, conservative strategist Nick Pappas revived a letter Cook wrote last December to the Manchester Charter Commission calling for elimination of the city’s tax cap, or a change that would make it easier to override.

Higher and higher property taxes; not directly mentioned below but “new taxes” cover this:

  • Strongly oppose new taxes and fees, including an income, sales or capital gains tax

And wouldn’t this just be so DELIGHTFUL, given the NH GOP Rule (right, Alida Millham?) that even if elected and being the highest elected official in the State if he won, he couldn’t even be a member in good standing in the NH GOP State Committee.  Simply stupendous!

  • his co-chairing campaigns for former Manchester Mayor, Democrat Bob Baines

Shades of Republicans for Lynch – relax Alida, all you did was endorse Democrats – Republican Brad Cook actively put a Democrat into office?  From the By Laws:

  • Any registered Republican who, at the same time joins or allows his or her name to be used in support of a political committee or a defined group of individuals, that in title or effect is intended to be understood by the public to be a committee or group comprised in whole or in part of members of the Republican Party endorsing a candidate for elected office from another political party, when there is a candidate nominated by the Republican Party for that office, shall be disqualified during the then present and the next biennium from holding an office of the State Committee or any County or City Committee, from being a member of the Executive Committee and from being a member of the State Committee.

Just like Snooki (of Jersey Shores fame, now on Dancing with the Stars) called herself: a hot mess.

Actually, skip the hot part – that requires energy.  Do we even need to know his other stances?

So, what does NH GOP Chair Jennifer Horn think of this?
