Data Point – Arctic ice pack has not “disappeared” as previously modeled

Artic Ice that was supposed to be gone is quite large

Heh!  Those scientists – such cards!   From The Corner:

BBC, December 12, 2007:

Scientists in the US have presented one of the most dramatic forecasts yet for the disappearance of Arctic sea ice. Their latest modelling studies indicate northern polar waters could be ice-free in summers within just 5-6 years.

2007 + 6 (using my old ancient math on a slide rule) is 2013.  Why, that’s NOW!  You know, I’m kinda looking up at that picture, and even last year, there was lots of ice (just a lot less than before).  This year?  Heh!

Instead, days before the annual autumn re-freeze is due to begin, an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia’s northern shores.

The Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific has remained blocked by pack-ice all year. More than 20 yachts that had planned to sail it have been left ice-bound and a cruise ship attempting the route was forced to turn back.

Some eminent scientists now believe the world is heading for a period of cooling that will not end until the middle of this century – a process that would expose computer forecasts of imminent catastrophic warming as dangerously misleading.

You know, that would be enough ice to keep my Mountain Dew’s pretty much cold for the rest of my life.  Which means that the vaunted “modeling” is just a tad off – and by analogy, that of the climate modelers too.   I’ll go out on that “thin ice” and remark that this hulabaloo is the result of ideology getting mixed into science and that stew then mixed into politics and policy.  Environmentalism has morphed from the days when rivers did catch on fire and we did have dumps all over, to days when most real environmental problems here in the US, to days where environmentals are seeing ghostly images of doom around every corner to self-justify themselves.  Instead of merely the pragmatic work, they’ve morphed into micro-totalitarians that have convinced themselves that they MUST regulate everyone else to make themselves believe that they have done good.  They have swallowed the juice that Progressives have poured for decades, that the only way to be successful is to take peoples’ freedom away, take choices away, to determine others’ life paths, simply because other people can’t be trusted to do the right thing by their issue.  Thus, they have no problem in using the force of Government against others to give themselves the contented feeling of “there, I have just saved the world for generations”.

Yes, these people are megalomaniacs who believe they are only acting, as Progressives have stolen the phrase, “common sense”.
