Lenco BEARCAT is up for discussion in Concord again

Activism is increasing, leading up to the Concord City Council BEARCAT vote on Mon Sept 9th.

You may be thinking, “this is Concord, what do I care?” – but this is more than just about Concord – this is about the type of New Hampshire we want to preserve for our children and a chance to push back at the growing, dangerous militarization of Police in our State and Country (courtesy of the Federal Government). The pot is boiling, folks…

You have two options to help in the push-back:

  • Come to the Concord School Board meeting tomorrow night Wed Aug 28th 5:30pm, where the Board will discuss their City Council letter of support or opposition to the Vehicle. Initially, they wanted to make this meeting a “private”, “non-public” meeting, so they could discuss their opinion on the BEARCAT away from the public: Facebook Event
  • Come to the Concord City Council meeting on Monday, Sept 9th 6:00pm, where they plan to vote on receiving the Federal funds to purchase the Police Assault Vehicle: Facebook Event

Note: The first item below took place yesterday. Over 400 petition signatures were collected over the weekend, in opposition to the BEARCAT.

  • This weekend’s BearCat petition drive was a success. We will be submitting the signatures to City at a press conference this afternoon (Monday August 26th) at 3:45 PM in front of City Council Chambers (41 Green Street, Concord). All are welcome to join us.

Senator Andy Sanborn has committed to be in attendance. He recently released a statement about the BearCat situation:

“As a Concord taxpayer, business owner and New Hampshire resident, I believe in our traditional New Hampshire values of personal responsibility, personal freedom and common sense. While the world is certainly more complicated today, I can not fathom the need for any small New Hampshire community to arm itself with an armored motorized vehicle who’s main purpose is to kill masses of people. Understanding the attractiveness of “free money” is wrought with perils, I hope the City Council of Concord recognizes that our local police departments are designed to serve and protect, not enforce through intimidation.”

  •  The Concord School Board will hold a meeting on this Wednesday night to discuss an endorsement of the BearCat, 5:30 p.m at the District Office, 38 Liberty Street (access to Board room is at rear of building). Yes, the BearCat is “for the children”! Only Concord residents will be allowed to speak at this event. Please show up at 4:45 (before the meeting starts), will be rallying outside. In the meantime, please consider contacting the members of the Concord School Board and ask that they oppose the BearCAT. Telephone numbers and email addresses are provided here. If you are a City taxpayer or a past, present, or future parent of a child in the school district be sure to mention that specifically. Here is a wonderful message that was sent to the School Board members.
  • We continue to be collecting signatures until September 7. Prizes (at present — could get better) for the individuals who collect the most signatures are: 1) two tickets to 2014 Free State Project Liberty Forum [over a $200 value]; 2) Five ounces of silver; 3) Two ounces of silver. To get petition forms, maps, and suggested events to target, please call or text Kelly @ Three One Four – Five Eight Three – Zero Eight Seven Five. For more information or for Concord residents to sign the petition online, go to www.NoMoreBEARCATS.com.
  • Of course if you haven’t already, also contact the City Councilors listed here. The final City Council vote is scheduled for September 9.
