Cardboard Cutouts, To Protect and Serve

Cardboard CopIf you’re a fan of the deceptive trickery used by the protagonists in The Lonely Guy and Home Alone, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this.  The richness, warmth, and camaraderie of cardboard company is no longer only a thing of the movies.  It now fills the crime deterrent role in reality. You don’t need a Bogart, Bacall or Michael Jordan, just a simple cutout of a beat cop in blue will do.  From CBS:

Cardboard Police Officer Curbs Crime At MBTA Station

BOSTON (CBS) – A cardboard cutout of a Transit Police officer is helping to curb crime in Boston.

The image of Officer David Silen is in place at the Alewife MBTA station, which is notorious for bike and other thefts.

Deputy Chief Robert Lenehan of the MBTA estimates that “...it would cost $200,000 a year to have an officer watch over the cage full-time.”  Now if MA can just use that same approach and replace the costly cops that languidly sit idle beneath their rolling blue lights while watching the road construction work, we’d save a bundle!  I’m all in for cardboard police car cutouts!
