Looking in the rear view mirror

As I set out to ride the first waves of feminism, my late father that told me being a girl got me nothing more than the first five minutes; after that, if I didn’t have the wit and will to compete, it wouldn’t matter.  He was right. I was focused like a laser on my work; so much so that taking advantage of multiple time zones, I once billed 25 hours in one day.  But by the time I hit my late forties, it was getting old.  All hotels looked the same, as did the airports and the attorneys’ and the bankers’ offices.  Every now and then, I’d be on a project that threw me for a loop – which was actually fun – but, in the end, even the projects began to look alike as well.  I retired, for the first time.  Too late to have kids, but not too late to have a life.  And a life was what I chose.

So today, when I saw this headline (emphasis mine) –  The Plight of the Alpha Female,  women remain scarce in the most elite positions. And it’s by choice. – I thought, huh.

I read on:

Women obtain the majority of college and graduate-school degrees. In their twenties, if they don’t have children, they outearn their male peers. They’re the primary wage earners in a rapidly growing percentage of households. American women even won more Olympic medals than their male compatriots did this summer. But for all of women’s success, there’s one area in which the rumor of male demise has been greatly exaggerated. At the top of every industry, men remain in charge.”  Read the whole thing.

Alpha?
The end of men? Not so much.
