Jared Marcum Will Not Be Charged

jared marcum tshirtThe West Virgina Student, Jared Marcum, who was suspended for one day for wearing an NRA T-shirt to school and refusing to take it off or turn it inside out, who then wore it to school again after his suspension and was then charged with obstruction by a local prosecutor…will not be charged.

So get a load of this…

On June 17th, Logan County prosecutors charged Marcum with obstructing a police officer, claiming that Marcum had hindered the responding officer’s ability to do his job by “interrupting” and refusing to be quiet when told to do so. The charge carried with it the possibility of incarceration in a juvenile facility. In contesting the charge, White noted that “In my view of the facts, Jared didn’t do anything wrong,” going on to say, “I think [the officer] could have done something differently.”

So they wanted to incarcerate this kid in a juvenile facility for talking out of turn?  Riiigghhht!

This was a classic case of progressive intimidation.  The established power brokers sought to define the terms of debate by making an example of Jared so that no one else would dare to advocate the position for which he was being punished.   it is progressive bullying and it goes on in classrooms at every level, all over the nation.  This one just captured a national audience.   But….it didn’t quite work out like they planned.

In the agreement underlying the order of dismissal, Jared did not admit guilt to any offense, and the State made clear that “[u]nder [the] circumstances [it] is not interested in the possibility of creating a juvenile criminal record for this Defendant.”  For his part, Marcum has offered an apology for any perceived disrespect to the officer, and he and his mother agreed to forego any civil action against the City of Logan, its police department, the police officers involved.

No word on whether is jack-booted music teacher had to apologize to Jared, or if the principal who detained him and called the police had to apologize to Jared.  I’m going to guess – no.  But I am inclined to believe that the words “agreed to forgo any civil action against the City of Logan, its police department (or the police officers involved) have established a boundary in this war on ‘speech’ which shall not be crossed again without consequence to the hair-trigger-panty-waist progressives looking to say and do as they please while simultaneously imposing their doctrinaire worldview on others with extreme prejudice.

Closing point: if the school wants a dress code and the right to enforce it,  they should ask for one, explain it, justify it, and let the taxpayers decide.  I have no objection to that.
