Gun Buy-Back Program In CO Foiled By Passage Of Recent Laws

“Irony is the hygiene of the mind.”   Elizabeth Bibesco

Liberals-Attack-The-Gun-Issue-Cartoon-Libertarian“Together Colorado“, an anti-gun group in Colorado had planned to host a gun buy back program whereby gift cards or tickets to sporting events would be exchanged for guns. The scheme intended to have people come, hand over their guns and get the gift cards or tickets….not so fast. With the recent passage of Colorado’s Strict Gun Laws, such a program would violate those very laws. Irony.

Colorado law, as passed by the legislature and signed by Hickenlooper states that all firearms transfers must go through a federally licensed firearms dealer. The dealer, according to law, then performs a background check for each transfer. Yes…every gun transferred.  If Together Colorado, had wanted the buyback to take place the group would have to host it at a gun shop, by law. Traditionally, dealers charge a transfer fee somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 to 35 per firearm.

And then there is “the group.” Entities cannot purchase firearms. Only “people” can.  Only government agencies can purchase firearms as a non-human entity. Local School students had raised nearly $8,000 in order to fund the purchase of the buyback incentives. Due to the restrictions passed by the legislator the gun buyback program was canceled at the request of a local sheriff.

Guns would be collected and destroyed thereafter by the local sheriff’s office. NBC Affiliate KOAA News reported that remnants of the destroyed firearms would then be passed along to Boulder-area metalworking artist Jessica Adams to use for a sculpture aimed at creating gun violence awareness.

Colorado is in the skyline attributable to their draconian and strict gun control measures passed earlier this year in knee-jerk fashion following the Sandy Hook-Newtown Massacre.

The one constant about liberals and gun laws that few talk about is their rank ignorance about gun laws. The hue and cry for background checks as if they do not exist, yet they overlook the ATF form 4473 required by every purchaser to be completed. Liberals wail about the, assault weapons, yet cannot define what an “assault weapon” is beyond some physical appearance. Liberals call for a ban of high capacity magazines and then send out Diana DeGette to tell us, “people who have those now they are going to shoot them, and so if you ban — if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available,”

There are two teachable moments to be drawn from buy-back programs in general: 1) It is municipal police departments who host them, not private organizations; 2) If a private organization was going to hold such an event, why would they not consult legal counsel? Finally, If these amalgams of steel, carbon fiber and/or wood are so terribly dangerous, why is it suddenly safe for liberals to handled them?

No matter…the buy back program is canceled and another nonsense liberal anti-gun group looks like the bunch of schmucks they deserve to appear as.
