Why New Hampshire.... - Granite Grok

Why New Hampshire….

Because culture can turn on a dime. A great Chinese pianist, Lui Shih Kun, now age 74, lived through such a culture-shift.

From yesterday’s Wall Street Journal, When the Culture Changed:

“When I returned to China after the Tchaikovsky competition [in Russia], the culture had changed. Mao Zedong was promoting the the idea that music and art must be based on folk traditions and if I wanted to compose I had to follow those principles.”

By the time the Cultural Revolution was under way in 1966, he found himself under arrest, and shifted from prison to prison. Guards repeatedly struck his right arm with a military belt—fracturing the bone. In the notorious Qincheng Prison, he was tortured.

“In summer and winter I had only one shirt. There were no showers. For food they gave me some moldy bread and rotten leaves with insects, loaded with lots of salt. I had to spend hours bowing to a portrait of Mao….”

Of course, nothing even remotely like that could happen here….

But…if it did, where would you want to be? What kind of people would you want around you? Libertarians and other “dangerous extremists”? Or socialists and other types of statists?

Where would you be safer? Where would you have the best chance for survival and happiness?

Storm coming.
