"We don't need you. We have your children" - Granite Grok

“We don’t need you. We have your children”

At the sake of breaking Godwin’s Law right from the get-go, that quote is from one of the world’s master propagandists, Herr Goebbels.   But we also have another in-kind phrase from a more up to date personage:

…of deciding what American children should eat: “We can’t just leave it up to the parents.”

That would be from First Lady Michelle Obama. In the mind of Progressives and Collectivists (hey, let’s add one more: MSNBC’s Melissa Harris_Perry), your children really do not belong to you, Parents, they really belong to us.  To feed, to clothe, to install morals, to mold – parenting is too important to leave to amateurs; we, the paid bureaucracy will raise them properly.  I’ve oft talked about teachers also having the ‘tude that they are more important to their children students than their own parents; here’s one more fact to add to that growing pile of evidence?  Who cares what the parents have been teaching their children “about guns” – we, the Teaching Profession, shall show them the Shining Path:

An elementary school will hold a toy gun exchange Saturday, offering students a book and a chance to win a bicycle if they turn in their play weapons.

Strobridge Elementary Principal Charles Hill maintains that children who play with toy guns may not take real guns seriously.

“Playing with toys guns, saying ‘I’m going to shoot you,’ desensitizes them, so as they get older, it’s easier for them to use a real gun,” Hill said.

… “Having a group of children playing cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians is a normal part of growing up,” said Yih-Chau Chang, spokesman for Responsible Citizens of California, a group whose goal is to educate the public about the facts behind gun rights.

Really, Principal Hill?  The most favorite play time activity I remember with all my neighborhood buds was playing Cops N Robbers with cap guns (now seemingly illegal) that made loud noises.  Cowboys and Indians, then later on, playing Army “against” the other neighborhood kids.  Nobody ever got hurt unless you count skinned knees and bruised egos (“You did NOT get me!!”).  Summer time – squirt guns.

Yeah, I find this a case of an overly active self-esteemed “I know better than you” deciding that he can set morals (or at least set the standard going forward).  After all, he has the children.  This, IMHO, is yet another notch as to why parents should home school their kids – failing that, the ability to choose a school that has decided to stick with teaching the basics in a most excellent manner instead of spending wasteful time on the current fad du jour.

If we want older kids to not think guns are cool, we need to start early,” Hill proclaimed…

Indeed – WHO THE HECK IS HE to just proclaim that guns are not cool and that it is HIS job “to start early”?  And we wonder why Johnny can’t read and Janie can’t do math?  Isn’t THAT supposed to be your job for which taxpayers pay you – academic subjects?  In elementary school (and maybe I am getting to be too old school), they should be learning their ABCs, to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, to learn about this country’s history, the rudiments of science, and learning to play together.  Yes, music and arts (yes, coming from an engineer, Hunter Dan) – teaching and not indoctrination.  Beginning the memorizing basic facts that will later serve as the knowledgebase for critical thinking (for this is no critical thinking without facts to synthesize) as well as learning to learn.

Leave the rest to the parents – for THAT is their primary responsibility.  Yeah, I’ve heard the nonsense that some parents don’t care or that they are “bad” parents and that they don’t live up to their responsibility.  Trust me, in running our daycare center, I ran into more than a few.  You hold those kids a bit more, you pay attention to them a bit more, and yes, you love them a bit more.

But you never, EVER cross that line that you are those childrens’ replacement parents – you never should undercut their authority nor that responsibility (even as it goes unfilled).  You do NOT stray into areas that do not belong to you, even if you truly believe you are right and they are evil.

I will put this coldly – you are employees of those same taxpayers; stop crossing that line.  Valued, yes.  But you are not the parents and I wish the Educational-Industrial (and Government-Industrial) Complex would return back to where it knew its place.  It once did, until Bill Ayers and his fellow regressive revolutionaries decided that they would infiltrate the system and make “social justice”, socialism, feel good about yourself self-esteem nonsense, and “WE will change the world – one student at a time” the highest of values instead of not just meeting the academic standards of, oh say, the Thirties through the Fifties but leave them in the dust.

Instead, if the cash register crashes, they can’t make change, good grammar is only as long as 140 characters, and a three paragraph post is considered to be a long form essay.  Trig, calculus, finite match, stats – the classical books and authors – more knowledge about the world than just it is round – familiarity of religions and political systems.  Yes – the classical Western Liberal education write to be age appropriate rather than “health” classes with stand-in bananas, abortion on demand for minors, and Greeness is Nirvana.

Go ahead, try this quadratic equation.  “We have your children” never sounded so scary…
