The Maze of Unaccountability

Maze-1If, over time, you’ve managed to build a maze that no one can get through, something so complex that even those tasked with it’s oversight and maintenance cannot only not oversee it, but who because of that can never expect to be held accountable, then the exercise of elections and appointments is merely a ceremonial act of theater from which we choose the most popular tyrants to stand atop an intractable mess.

And as has been the habit of late, the tendency–in the theoretical pursuit of a solution to that problem–is to elect those who agree that what the maze needs is more walls in it, and perhaps more people to stand atop them, rather than the proper response which would be to start bulldozing the walls down until (at the very least) the people responsible can see what they are responsible for.

But there is no incentive for a bureaucrat or a politician to encourage their own accountability as that would require them to be held to account.  It is therefore always in their best interest to make the maze as complex as possible in defense of their expanding budgets, monopoly on power, and to deride and harrange anyone who dare suggest otherwise.
