Oh Kelly?? About your upcoming Immigration vote – Part 1

My Jr US Senator, Kelly Ayotte, make the rounds of the Sunday morning talking head shows to make her announcement that she is in McCain’s sidecar when it comes to voting for the Gang of Eight’s Amnesty Immigration Plan (she also sent me a personal email – hope the NSA read it!):

It will take tough decisions to solve our nation’s immigration problems. After careful review of this bill, I will support it and plan to vote for amendments offered to strengthen it.

This legislation secures the border first, with more border agents, more fencing, and better surveillance technology.

Eyup – border first.  Right.  Really?  Um, that’s not what one of the Gang of Eight Republicans, Marco Rubio himself, said on Univision yesterday (emphasis mine):

“Let’s be clear,” Rubio said. “Nobody is talking about preventing the legalization. The legalization is going to happen. That means the following will happen: First comes the legalization. Then come the measures to secure the border. And then comes the process of permanent residence.”

In most of his public appeals for the Gang of Eight bill, Rubio has stressed its enforcement provisions, saying that border security must come before immigrants are granted legal permanent resident status. What he has not stressed so much is the fact that the bill would legalize the 11 million almost immediately, after they have passed background checks and paid some sort of fine. That would happen before any new security measures are completed, or even begun.

Yes, Rubio is one of Schumer’s  “our Republicans”.  What say you now, Kelly, since Rubio has now has contradicted himself and said “Amnesty first – securing the border later”?  OUR border, Kelly.  How long can a country stand when it cannot control its own border?  How WORSE is it when a country REFUSES to control its own border?

Now add this factoid about border security law that has already been passed:

The Secure Fence Act of 2006 lays out in extraordinary detail where “at least 2 layers of reinforced fencing” are supposed to be built along the Mexican border. . . .In other words, Congress crafted the border plan at the outset, specifying where some 650 miles of fencing was to be placed, rather than leave the details up to the Bush administration. How’d that work out?

There are only about 40 miles of such double fencing, with no plans for any more.

I’ve watched this Kabuki dance too many times to believe that border security is going to be first, Kelly.  All that happens is that we get lied to – either by commission or omission.  Tell me, what should I believe – your statement or one of the Author’s words?  Am I supposed to accept amnesty from my Government betters, or am I being stroked, or am I being lied to (or, to be honest, WAS being lied to before but now the truth comes out as the debate begins on the bill?

It seems to be so bad, with respect to border security, that Sen. Cornyn (R-TX) wishes to put in an Amendment to address this very thing – a lack of border security; what say you to this, Kelly?

A proposed Republican amendment to the Senate Gang of Eight’s immigration bill is a “poison pill” and the legislation is unlikely to go through any “big changes,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Sunday.

The amendment to the bill from Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) would require significantly higher thresholds of border control before the bill’s “trigger” kicks in allowing undocumented immigrants to move toward citizenship. The effort has been praised by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a key Gang of Eight member, as a provision that “will get this bill where it needs to be.”

So, uber-Dem Harry Reid is totally against border security, otherwise, why dost he protesth so verbosely?  So if now Republican Rubio (who likes Cornyn’s Amendment – a lot) admits that the bill’s security is el zippo, that Republican Cornyn thinks it so bad he feels it needs to be corrected, and that Democrat Reid is aghast that the truth has come and (Heavens!) and now he has to do damage control to KEEP AMNESTY FIRST – what say you, Kelly?

Amnesty for those who broke our laws to be here (and, get away with two misdemeanors  to boot and STILL get amnesty), have to pay some nebulous idea of “back taxes”  (REALLY???   And HOW are you going to determine that – on an illegal alien’s word (Kinda like DNI Clapper’s remarks when he said that the NSA was not collecting info on US Citizens – and it turns out that he lied and the NSA IS)?  And a couple of grand for a fine – got news for you: they paid a whole lot more than that to have the coyotes bring them over the border.  Two thousand dollars for their kids to live in the US, the richest country in the world (well, the private sector – Congress has seen to it that we are the brokest nation in history w/respect to our public debt)?  That’s not a fine – that’s a cheap entrance fee.

We’ll do Part 2 tomorrow.
