“It’s everybody’s right to participate in politics, and well you should,” Blumenauer said on Tuesday at the House Ways and Means Committee hearing into allegations that the IRS targeted conservative organizations, including NOM. “But I think having organizations parading as being social welfare organizations and then being involved in political combat harkens back to why the (IRS 501(c)(4) statute – a hundred years ago – said that they were prohibited, and I wholeheartedly agree.”
NOM – National Organization for Marriage. It is a conservative group that educates and advocates for traditional marriage. It’s Chair, John Eastman answered back:
“The notion that defending traditional marriage doesn’t qualify as a defense of the public good is beyond preposterous,” Eastman said. “And how sad it is, Rep. Doggett, how sad it is that efforts to educate about our Constitution have become a partisan political issue that you think people ought not to get tax-exempt status for that.”
In his opening statement, Eastman said the IRS had released the NOM’s tax information in 2012 to the gay rights advocacy group the Human Rights Campaign, and although much of the tax documents were redacted, the names of donors were left in place. The HRC posted the documents on its website, Eastman said.
Now, the Human Rights Campaign organization (HRC) is the leading militant Gay rights organization in the US. It does way more than “dabbling” in politics itself – and is also a tax exempt organization. But that is not my point – it is what Progressivism has done to Civil Society: “…then being involved in political combat harkens back to why the (IRS 501(c)(4) statute – a hundred years ago“.
Much has happened in the last 100 years – which incidently, was the time in America when Progressivism started to assume the Political Stage. Instead of leaving most of American life to be settled in what we used to call Civil Society (you know, that which is left outside of Government interference and intrusion) as the Founders saw to be a strength, Progressives decided that Government, not individuals managing their own lives within the Civil Society sphere, should be preeminent over Americans’ lives. And with such an insertion of Government, comes…..wait for it…….yeah, almost there………POLITICS!
Politics – it is no longer who YOU are and what you can do, it is who you know and where they stand in a political order. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) is a Progressive – he knows full well that ALL things have become politicized – he’s part of the movement that made that switch happen.
So why shouldn’t NOM, and the TEA Party entities participate in politics – after all, Progressives made “social welfare” purely political. All things are seemingly almost always defined by an elected official or some bureaucracy; less and less are major decisions made outside of Government’s Sauron style Eye. We can only make decisions within the confines of the steel bars that define what Government now allows.
Thus, all this chuckhead Blumenauer is now trying to do is to go back in time, when ‘social welfare’ had a real and meaningful definition – and imputed reality, to shut down discussion against Big Government malfeasance and do exactly what the IRS was doing…
…using the force and might of Government to deny Free Speech to those that disagree with them. Tyranny
