Book Burning Climatologists… aka Religious Zealots

Fevered religiosity when perturbed sometimes manifests itself with a ruddy face, engorged veins running beneath a purple forehead, and trembling that’s even detectable by a Seismometer.  The fever stricken often respond with quixotic obtuseness with a flavor of blind stupidity and succumb to behavior often not naturally found in their temperament.

Which brings us to hallowed and sacred ground of San Jose State University wherein  Gorean disciples practice their fealty.

A few days ago, the sanctity of mahogany paneled University was violated upon the receipt of a book.  A book with pages dripping not just with blasphemy but down right heresy.

The title of the sacrileges tome: “The Mad, Mad, Mad World of Climatism: Mankind and Climate change Mania” by Steve Goreham.  Oddly, some in receipt of this filth proceeded to animate the subtitle with exquisite and uncanny personification!

But it’s justified!  Just look at the ensorcellment that’s enclosed within pages.  It’s heterodoxy!  From Amazon’s description (emphasis mine):

The Mad, Mad, Mad World of Climatism is the first book on climate change that is fun to read. Using figures, cartoons, and whimsical sidebars, Steve Goreham describes our crazy world, which is far down the primrose path of global warming fantasy. Contrary to popular consensus, global warming is natural and cars are innocent. But this book is not short on science. Goreham uses charts, graphs, and references to dozens of scientific papers to support his arguments. He shows that icecap melting, stronger storms, polar bear extinction, and many other climate fears are unfounded. At the same time, his large collection of zany pictures and quotes grabs the reader’s interest. Learn the real story about climate change.

“ENOUGH!!!”, one can imagine SJSU’s Department of Meteorology and Climate Science chairperson Dr. Alison Bridger proclaiming to her assistant professor Craig Clements after flipping through the pages.  “Bring me the matches!”

And on they went.  As if inspired by the forest flames framed in the pictures in her office, a match was struck, and the book was “tested for flammability”.

The orange glow must have salved the professors as the flames licked higher and higher up the jacket.  They were only rattled out of their blissful feeling of righteousness by fire alarms. Okay, it probably wasn’t a pyre, and the alarm probably didn’t go off.  You need a lot of books for a pyre; these Profs probably torch ’em as they come.

The difference this time is that in their self-righteous arrogance they decided allow their act to be photographed,  and then, suggesting even more hubristic untouchability, they posted it online… oops.

Naturally, being professors it eventually dawned on them that they better take it down.  So they yanked the image from their website but not before a screengrab could be had here at wuwt.com.

At about that same time it also probably dawned on them that they just joined a long list of blind disgraced zealots, many of whom the newbies probably loathe like, oh you know, the Nazis, Pinochet regime, them crazy southerners etc.  They go by the title: “book burner”.  All share one characteristic that unites them: an unadulterated fanatical religious intolerance of non compliant thought.

And now Dr. Alison Bridger and Craig Clements share this commonality… for all to see.
