Tyranny? Proper Role of Govt for a Senator demanding Fox Sports to not to air NASCAR race because of NRA sponsorship?

“Nice network and race series you have there – shame if something happened to it (if the Feds were to start looking at them)”

NRA 500I wanted to start this post off with “Have guns become the new pornography that must be silenced?” but that would miss the nuance of the Progressive mind that ALL things that run counter to the Progressive making “progress” IS considered pornography – and thus, be discredited, maligned and eventually eliminated.  Constitutionally protected?  Makes no difference – FORWARD!  Free speech / First Amendment?  Makes no difference – FORWARD!

That you have a sitting US Senator (Democrat) trying to lean forward in silence the opposition to achieve a Progressive Political Milestone Forward to Tyranny worthy of a Banana Republic:

The National Rifle Association-sponsored NASCAR race slated for this weekend is “inappropriate in the immediate wake of the Newtown massacre,” Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut, wrote to the race’s broadcaster on Thursday.

No, we are no longer in the “immediate wake” of using dead children for political children – Senator, when will the Left stop using dead children as politicial pawns?

Just like when Obama ascended to the Presidency (and living the life worthy of any Old World Royal) when we saw bills upon bills in all areas touching American life, anti-gun Progressives were ready almost seconds after the news spread to proclaim “Tomorrow, I will submit a bill to…” (re: Diane Feinstein, for one).  This may anger some, but to use the verbiage of the Left, the Constitution and its values outweighs any of us.  A tragedy, yes, but what worse things can portended from the loosing of an already overreaching Government from the binds of the Constitution?

“The race not only brings national attention to an organization that has been the face of one side of this heated debate, it also features the live shooting of guns at the end of the race,” Murphy wrote to Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, which owns the Fox network where the race will be broadcast.

And you have been part of that other face, Murphy!  And what is wrong with the firing of guns – or is that yet another “clinging” tradition which you disapprove?  Or is this yet again another broadside from an elitist that just only think “I don’t know why anybody would want…”.  Yo, Murph!  Pssst – it should not be up to you what I think is important to me or not – it’s not up to you to decide!

And is the NRA telling you to shut up?  Or just willing to engage in the arena of ideas and votes – which you obviously are not?

In March, the Texas Motor Speedway announced the NRA had sponsored the NASCAR Sprint Cup event on April 13, which marked the first time the gun owners group has sponsored a race in NASCAR’s top series.

…The winners of races at the track are often given two revolvers and a cowboy hat while taking photographs in victory lane. The fastest qualifier is awarded a shotgun.

…”I would like to make a similar challenge to you,” Murphy told the media mogul in his letter Thursday. “You should play a constructive role in our national dialogue by refraining from broadcasting the NRA 500. By airing this race you will be strengthening the brand of a radical organization that is currently standing in the way of meaningful progress on this issue.

A US Senator that would even attempt to persuade a private entity to break a valid contract with a legal organization simply because they hold a different position that is supported by the US Constitution?  Yes, I would say that this is beyond the pale – argue in the Senate, argue in the media, argue in the streets – but to use the appearance of the Leviathan Federal Government in such a way give a new spin on La Costra Nostra.  Simply by honoring his oath to the Constitution, understanding the Proper Role of Government (and conversely, what the Proper Role of Government Is Not!), he should be admonished to keep out of private contractual affairs.

Yet, this is the Progressive way – there are no boundaries as to where Politics should be held to account – ALL things are political, for the Government is Us (just that , well, Murph seems to be in a seat that is more equal than us).

You know, if the Democrats keep this up, I just might renew my lapsed NRA membership – just out of spite!
