How About a Little Bias?

Much of the media bais that occures is subtle.  From choosing what stories to cover and what to ignore to how issues, ideas, and people are framed in context, word choice and tone convey connotation, intentional or not, to the reader.

Here’s a classic example from Yahoo! News.

Claudine Zap, writing for The Lookout – A Yahoo! News Blog, shares her observations about the exchange between Senator’s Ted Cruz and Diane Feintein. (Scott observed a portion of that exchange here with a slightly different perspective.)

Ted Cruz is described as ‘a newcomer,’ and a “tea party partisan.”

Feinstein on the other hand is “an advocate,” a “Senior Senator,” whom we are informed was a “Stanford Graduate,” who has been ‘up close and personal with the constitution, (keep your enemies closer?), but who has also had first hand experience with gun violence.

She has also had years of experience doing violence against the protections of the constitution, though she is certainly not alone.

So is it just a coincidence that the same people who want to tax us more and more for the privilege of telling us how to live every aspect of our lives are also the same people obsessed with ensuring that no one can ever object to their governance?
