“What we can do is to make the environment here so unwelcoming…”

WMUR has a story about a radio poll gone wild.  The Girard at Large program held an on-line poll seeking votes for Manchester New Hampshire person of the year; it attracted more than 44,000 responses complete with comments they thought were a bit over the top.

…on social media, the unofficial race turned ugly, with one author saying, “The only reason the cop is being nominated is because he was shot, not killed, while on the clock.”

Another writer used the word “pig” to reference another Manchester police officer who was killed in the line of duty. It was not the sort of dialogue Girard said he was expecting.

Wow.  Edgy!  And of course, no, not really, and the reporter must have sensed that.  Why else would they call New Hampshire Democrat House Rep. Cynthia Chase for her thoughts on the story?

The online dispute comes on the heels of recent comments from state Rep. Cynthia Chase, D-Keene, who wrote on a blog that “Free Staters are the single biggest threat facing the state today.”

When reached by phone, Chase declined comment, saying she fears for the safety of her family.

Do you think WMUR is trying to carry water for New Hampshire Democrats on this one?  Look!  A Free Stater (probably) called a cop “pig!”  Yeah, and so did every leftist from the sixties and seventies–the folks running the government, J-Schools, and Universities.  (edgy!)

But Chase declined to comment.  She fears for the safety of her family.

I don’t want Ms. Chase to feel afraid,  but I wonder how safe average citizens were feeling when an elected representative of their state government (Ms. Chase) suggested using the powers of the police state to intimidate her perceived political opponents? I bet they didn’t feel very safe either.  And why would they?  Her party had been on another months-long media-narrative assault on the Free State Project.  A party that was now the dominant voice in state government.

And now I guess she feels a bit less free, now that her environment has become so unwelcoming?

What did Chase write again?

What we can do is to make the environment here so unwelcoming that some will choose not to come, and some may actually leave.

Interesting.
