Sheriff’s and the Second Amendment

“Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty.”  —Thomas Jefferson

Quotes and musing from some of America’s Sheriff’s…

“My office will not comply with any federal action which violates the United States Constitution or the Kentucky Constitution which I swore to uphold. Let them pull that stuff in other places if they want, but not in Jackson County, Kentucky. Just a few of us have to be willing to stand up to political opposition putting our people at risk. The other side will back down.” Jackson County Kentucky Sheriff Denny Peyman

“Any federal regulation enacted by Congress or by executive order of the President offending the constitutional rights of my citizens shall not be enforced by me or by my deputies, nor will I permit the enforcement of any unconstitutional regulations or orders by federal officers within the borders of Crook County, Oregon.”Sheriff Paul Hensley, Crook County Oregon Sheriff

“Any federal regulation enacted by Congress or by executive order of the President offending the constitutional rights of my citizens shall not be enforced by me or by my deputies, nor will I permit the enforcement of any unconstitutional regulations or orders by federal officers within the borders of Linn County, Oregon.”- Sheriff Tim Mueller, Linn County Oregon Sheriff

“When we have emotional reactions that actually start eroding away at the very constitutional rights that were given us when we won our freedom, or established in winning our freedom, from a tyrannical government, we’re kind of going backward,” he said.

“I swore an oath when I took this office I would defend the Constitution of the United States… I will always defend that right. And I think a lot more people really need to start doing a gut check and decide where they draw that line.” Henderson County North Carolina Sheriff Charles S. McDonald

“I personally am sick and tired of the government putting regulations in place that affect our personal rights, our property rights and the Constitution; I think these states passing these laws are out of control, something I cannot support. It’s not the gun or the amount of bullets, It’s the person.” Madison County Idaho Sheriff Roy Klingler

“I do not believe the Federal Government or any individual in the Federal Government has the right to dictate to the states, counties or municipalities any mandate, regulation or administrative rule that violates the United States Constitution or it various amendments. I would view any such mandate, regulation or administrative rule illegal and refuse to carry it out.” Pine County Minnesota Sheriff Robin K. Cole.

“Let me make sure that my position on any further attempt by the State or Federal Government to ban certain firearms based on feature or ammunition magazines or capacity of ammunition is crystal clear…I am 100 percent totally opposed to any type of knee jerk reaction where yet again this country tries to solve a problem by ‘banning’ inanimate objects because they may be used by the mentally ill for the purpose of harm. I resent politicians who try to make themselves feel better by passing legislation that does nothing to deal with armed criminals with guns.  Limiting firearms purchasing options for law-abiding citizens “makes no difference to the criminal element.”

“The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution has nothing to do with target shooting, hunting, collecting or anything of the sort. It was drafted to guarantee that Americans could defend themselves not only from criminals but from an oppressive government.” Oconee Georgia Sheriff Scott Berry

Had to include this… “Fox 5 Atlanta Host Melissa Francis questioned Berry about his opinion of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence’s scorecard for the state of Georgia regarding gun regulation where Georgia ranked  8 out of a possible 100, Berry responded by saying he “was kinda hoping we’d shoot for a lower number than that.” (How can you not love this guy?)
