Jonah caught the stupid point – ignored the far more important point

Far be it for me to correct NRO’s Jonah Goldberg, best selling author of TWO books on Progressives (“Tyranny of Cliches” & “Liberal Fascism“) when commenting on something in the news, but I think he went for the “ha-ha” and missed the “ewwww”:

From the Washington Post’s profile of Bloomberg:

NEW YORK — Michael Bloomberg, America’s most prominent and deep-pocketed advocate for gun control, would rather rehabilitate Republicans than oust them.

“Somebody got them the way they are now,” the mayor of New York said in a recent interview as he sat in the bullpen offices of City Hall, surrounded by a buzzing staff, blinking Bloomberg terminals and clocks telling the same time in each of the five boroughs. “Why can’t you change them?”

Who knew that the worst part of crossing the Brooklyn Bridge is the jet lag.   I wonder if the mayor has ever said something like, “I’ve got to call the Queens Borough president. What time is it over there?”

Hmm, what caught my eye was much worse than an ignorant reporter (the WaPo dude, not Jonah that caught him being stupid) – bringing the “ewwww” factor:

Michael Bloomberg, America’s most prominent and deep-pocketed advocate for gun control, would rather rehabilitate Republicans than oust them.

Spoken like a true Progressive – one that has little respect for others and the lives that they wish to live.  “Somebody got them the way they are now” absolutely smacks of someone showing that folks other than themselves (“er, I am an Enlightened One!”) have no choice but to follow the diktats of someone else as in some Svengali out there that sets each thought and motion in place for the unwashed masses.  And since somebody did that once, why, he’s just the fellow to put them back on the Golden Road to his Utopia (don’t worry, we won’t take that by-pass that leads to that Utopia that you’d like to go to….that isn’t part of The Plan).

I think his BillionBucks and his ability to earn such has him thinking he’s got SuperPowers.  After all, Progressives believe in “perfecting the rest of us” – but it does take a bit of chutzpah to be so blunt about it.  But, this is the guy that takes away your Big Gulp, your trans-fats, your salt, your ability to feed the poor, and your guns.

After he, like all Progressives, he knows what is best for you – whether you like it or not!
