Who IS responsible for someone else’s sexual habits?

Dominos PizzaOnce again, we see an employer asking the Right question – and defending his answer in the face of the HHS mandate with a lawsuit.  and this is an employer “of means” (reformmated, emphasis mine):

The founder of Domino’s Pizza is suing the federal government over mandatory contraception coverage in the health care law. Tom Monaghan, a devout Roman Catholic, says abortion and contraception aren’t health care but a “gravely immoral” practice. He filed a lawsuit Friday in federal court. It also lists as a plaintiff Domino’s Farms, a Michigan office park complex that Monaghan owns. Monaghan offers health insurance that excludes contraception and abortion for employees. The new federal law requires employers to offer insurance including contraception coverage, or risk heavy fines.

But Monaghan says the law violates his rights, pointing out that it is not his responsibility to pay for the sexual habits of his employees, and is asking a judge to strike down the mandate. There are similar lawsuits pending nationwide.

Progressives have long pushed their version of communtarianism for years – often, we hear “we’re all in this together” from Obama (as if he has to keep saying it to reassure himself that it is true).  Problem is,

this assumption lays down the Progressive value that WE are responsible for ameliorating the effects of bad decisions – and as this HHS demand for obedience shows, without the corresponding ability to remove ourselves from that decision.  Typical overbearance and oppressive action by Progressive philosophy – privatize (or even encourage) bad decision making and socialize the bad outcome.  Is this good for what remains of Civil Society as Progressives continue to embrace, encompass, and narrow the space between Government and Individuals by minimizing that “space” known as Society)?  Obama has oft declared “I am my brother’s keeper (even as he ignores the plight of his 1/2 brother in Kenya, and that this phrase was used by Cain to evade God’s question of “Where is your brother?”).

Is it the role of Government to force me, if I were to be an employer again, to be concerned with the sexual habits of an employee?  Or is this, a la Sandra Fluke, a use of “privacy” when convenient and a disregard for it when needed (like with Obamacare – now my formerly private health information can be seen by pretty much anyone)?

Also, I ask, why aren’t more people seeing this process proceeding and asking THIS question: is it a good thing that Progressives continue to make private companies simply outgrowth of Government?  Progressives, with the lure of ample tax money, have already effectively absorbed many (if not most) “social services” organizations (formerly known as standalone charities depending only on individuals) into Government.

We saw this in the 1920s and 1930 where Governments did not OWN the companies, but certainly controlled them – a truer definition of Fascism.  Is this what we want Progressive Democrats do to the land of the Free?
