Notable Quote – F. A. Hayek

Wherever liberty as we understand it has been destroyed, this has almost always been done in the name of some new freedom promised to the people.

– F. A. Hayek, the Road to Serfdom

Certainly, Progressives believe that they have new “freedom not to be bankrupted from illness” with Obamacare – but are destroying the First Amendment Right to expression of religion (the HHS mandate, and opposed to Obama’s “freedom of worship”)

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

and making others indentured servants to pay for it:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

When taxes from Government can exceed 60% of someone’s income,  cannot that be called for form of involuntary servitude?  I once asked myself, as I was flying all over the country with very little time for myself, “am I living to work – or working to live?”.  The answer was the former – a bad place to be, as my family had to sacrifice for my absence.  However, it was a voluntary situation – and it was changed that “having a life” was far more important.

But Government is not voluntary – and many Progressives decry “cuts to Government” as if Government, as the Bible declares for God, is to have the first fruits of one’s labor.  So, do we work for ourselves – or simply are allowed by Government to keep what it feels best for us?  Is it “right” to “indenture” the rich to pay for their share of Government or Government benefits (given our now massive Welfare State)?
