When you put the cross-hairs on yourself, Alida….

From the Laconia Daily Sun:

Millham declines nomination to GOP committee amid criticism of her endorsements of Dems

Yep.  This headline pretty much sums it up, eh?  This could have fit as well: “Milham finally dropkicks herself out of bounds“.

…However, later she recalled that conservatives targeted moderates in GOP primaries and, describing herself as “one of the targeted people,” urged her listeners “to take a look at how people in the partite [sic] are treated. ” Quoting economist Paul Romer, she remarked “a crisis s a terrible thing to waste” before taking her seat to scattered applause.

And I chose not to waste it, Alida. Regular readers of the ‘Grok know that she has graced (disgraced?) the pages of the ‘Grok multiple times – I have followed her votes and made sure that she (along with others in my formerly larger district like Peter Bolster and Doc Pilliod) were well recognized for their votes that enlarged (and never lessened) the size and scope Government, and showed the arrogance of the State making decisions where individuals should be making them instead.  Her philosophy is not that of govt as umpire…but as ruler.

Sure she was targeted – but she was far from being the innocent victim that she wants people to believe she was.  She wanted to be able to vote the way she wanted (pretty much against party principles and platform) without having that dreaded word “accountable” dragged out of the dictionary.  Sorry, Alida, but decisions (and votes) have consequences and you manufactured this one all by your lonesome – I merely shined a flashlight on it.

I understand that this is really inside NH Republican baseball type stuff – who is eligible to be elected to be an official member of the NH Republican State Committee (that votes on bylaws and elects Party officials, among other things). So, in this regard, how did she manage to drop two large bulls-eyes over herself?

The rift in Republican ranks between its conservative and moderate wings emerged when the Belknap County Republican Committee met this week as Skip Murphy, co-founder of GraniteGrok, the conservative blog, challenged the nomination of Alida Millham, a current but soon to be retired state representative from Gilford, for election to the party’s state committee.

When Millham was nominated, Murphy questioned her eligibility, citing a party bylaw, which he understood to disqualify any Republican who endorsed a candidate of another party in a general election from serving on the state committee.

In letters written to The Daily Sun during the fall election season, Millham endorsed Democrats Kate Miller of Meredith and Lisa DiMartino of Gilford, both of whom ran for four seats the New Hampshire House of Representatives in Belknap County District 2, composed of Meredith and Gilford.

So, we have an elected Republican, voting most of the time with Democrats in the NH House, endorsing Democrats in a race where there were three good Conservative (and Republicans) running – and she deigned to say not one good word about any of them?  And she STILL felt that she should be on the State Committee after that?  No, that was a step too far for me!

So I spoke up – the only one who did.  I’m glad I did, even if very briefly…and if necessary at the next meeting, you can be sure that I will have a lot more to say as well. This is one of the problems of the NH GOP, even as it tries to be a big tent:

Are you SO willing to be an inclusive party that you tolerate “valued” members that openly screw you?  Does the obtaining and holding onto power mean so much to you that you are willing to support ANY one who simply puts an R after their name?  What does that say about your standards and what Joe “Not a tinker’s dam difference between them” Six-Pack perceives?

And then the Stupid Party wonders they they keep losing when, in this case, they let the Fifth Column in.  I drifted away from Party politics for the most part after the ouster of TEA Party favorite, Jack Kimball, from being NH GOP Chair (supposedly for poor performance).  After the whipping at this past election, no longer.

Note: I’m surprised that Wayne MacDonald is still resident in that seat – double standard for the insiders, I guess.
