ARLINGTON, VA – Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s leading advocate for prosperity and economic freedom, responds to today’s job report with a gripping new ad unlike any seen this political season.  With confirmation of yet another month of over 12 million people unemployed, American families face a jobs crisis at the dinner table.

“The big-government policies of this administration have left more Americans out of work for longer than under the last 11 Presidents combined,” explained Tim Phillips, President of AFP. “It’s abundantly clear that President Obama’s policies of reckless spending, higher debt, and ever-increasing taxes are putting Americans out of work.”

AFP’s new ad, “Dinner Table,” features a recently unemployed father sitting at the dinner table with his worried family.

“Our latest ad hits you right in the gut,” said AFP Director of Marketing Mike Harinstein. “Too often, job statistics and rhetoric gloss over the gritty reality of American families who are suffering in this economy.” The ad then fades to a black-and-white question on the screen: “12.1 million Americans unemployed. Isn’t it time to try something different? That ad launches today online.

In addition to the new ad launch, AFP is ramping up grassroots efforts nationwide. Tomorrow AFP hosts its 2nd National Prosperity Action Day with 50+ AFP field offices in 16 states organizing door knocks to poll citizens about President Obama’s policies and job approval. Organizers anticipate they’ll reach thousands of doors on Saturday, building on the success of the 1st National Prosperity Action Day, in which citizen activists made over 400,000 phone calls in one day using the state-of-the-art Freedom Phone system. So far this year, activists have used Freedom Phones to make over 5 million calls.

Only 114,000 jobs were created in September, which is significantly below the 146,000 average monthly gain for 2012.  With 114,000 jobs added last month the Great Recession job gap won’t be closed until 2025. The unemployment rate in a labor force the same size as when Obama took office is now at 10.7%. 12.1 million Americans are unemployed with 4.8 million of those having been unemployed for more than 27 weeks.
