Data Point – Republican Registrations Up; all time high

This canNOT be good news in Chicago (HQ for Obama Campaign)

After falling for two straight months, the number of Americans who consider themselves Republicans jumped nearly three points in August.

During August, 37.6% of Americans considered themselves Republicans. That’s up from 34.9% in July  and 35.4% in June. It’s also the largest number of Republicans ever recorded by Rasmussen Report since monthly tracking began in November 2002. The previous peak for the GOP was 37.3% in September 2004. See History of Party Trends.

I looked at the History; it seems back in November of 2007, the split was Democrats 37.4% and Republican 32.5% (Rs down by 4.9%).  Right now, Rs are up by 4.3%.  Does this mean a win?  Dunno – 2 months plus a tad is still a long way to go.  But, as the saying goes, the numbers are heading in the right direction.  The other saying – “so, how much stock in Maalox did you buy?”.

As an anecdotal mention, I was up in the North Country of New Hampshire looking for hard to find items that I have not been find locally.  Even TMEW mentioned – LOOK at all of the political signs out there!  My reply was “Yes, they are all over the major roads, it seems”.  But the other thing that struck me was the sheer number of candidates with signs out there were Republican vs those for the Democrats.  In fact, the biggest number were for Governor and US Congress – more signs by a margin of easily 30 – 1 for the R contenders than for Dems in their similar primaries.  And the signs that I saw for Dems were there normal lawn type signs – VERY few (on one hand?) large ones for Hassan or Cilley (and none for Dem Kennedy).

Even Axelrod, Chief Campaign dude for Obama, can’t make the case economically to re-elect Obama (and watch this snake slither trying to get out of Wallace’s flashlight on this question).
