It’s Time For A Smell Test (Update and Bumped – Democrats spent 1.5 million to elect Akin)

A Republican Candidate for the US Senate in Missouri said something stupid the other day.

“It seems to me, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” he said.

Akin said later, in a statement, that he “misspoke,” claiming that his comments did not “reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year.”

He’s referring to the frequency (infrequency) of unwanted pregnancies from rape, measured against his opposition to abortion.

OK.  But it sounded really stupid the first time around.

The Romney campaign came out promptly to clarify their position, which probably dove-tails with most of America, but what interests me more is the media and Democrat responses, particularly given their silence over the abundance of Bidenisms and willingness to dismiss out of hand, things said by campaign mangers and candidates right here in New Hampshire.

Akin quickly apologized/clarified, but being Republican that is no remedy, nor does it prevent the firing up the “every Republican had better denounce it or own it”  hypocrisy of New Hampshire Democrats.  So will they have to take a hypocrisy smell test on this one?

I have not yet looked, but NH Democrats have already handicapped themsleves and their ability to wield national gaffes for personal local political gain.  If they have responded to this, we’ll try to find it, and feel free to send us anything along those lines, but any response at all will be met with a prompt review of their hypocrisy on these matters of which their is an abundance of material to work with.

(Updated)

Well this is fun.  According to The Examiner, Democrats spent 1.5 million to help Todd Akin win the primary becasue they figured he would be the easiest Republican for Democrat Claire McCaskill to beat.
