Obama has come out swinging at Mitt Romney lately, trying to indict him of nasty capitalist behavior while at Bain Capital (which he apparently left in 1999).
This commercial tries to blame Romney (along with Bain) for the closing of the Kansas City GST Steel plant in 2001.
However, it appears that one of Obama’s top “bundlers”, Jonathan Lavine, was, and has been since 1993, a Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Bain Capital, specifically within the “Sankaty Advisors and related funds” division. Lavine, of Lexington, MA, listed as a “Senior Professional” on Bain’s website, was responsible for bringing in $222,200 during Obama’s 2008 campaign.
If you do the simple math, Obama’s Lavine was a member of Bain during the 2001 GST Steel layoffs, when Romney wasn’t, and seemed to have a distinctly prominent position.
Of course, Lavine went to Harvard and Columbia Universities, and is a Columbia trustee to this day.
