How is the NH Union Leader Like FEMA…?

How is the Union Leader Like FEMA…?   Slow to respond and not very satisfying results.  (Ok, maybe they are not that bad, just maybe this once.)

Five days ago the Union Leader reported that Salem NH House Rep. Marilinda Garcia was against the veto override of HB 1679- the partial birth abortion ban bill.  They even quoted “her,” stating that she did not believe we needed the bill because of existing Federal law.

Given that there is rarely any reason not to, I believed them long enough to write a post about it here.  When I was notified that the UL got it wrong, I fixed it immediately and then posted her actual remarks because they were so different from the perception presented to readers of the Union Leader.

Several days later, the UL has gotten around to a correction:

A Thursday story about the Legislature’s override of Gov.  John Lynch’s partial-birth abortion veto should have reported Marilinda Garcia was a leading advocate for the ban and led the floor debate in favor of the bill.

I did not expect them to lavish an apology nor share any of her actual remarks, particularly since the veto was overridden, but this seems a bit thin given how completely backwards their reporting was on such a critical issue.   At least they pointed out that she was a leading advocate for the ban.  Of course, I still do not know who actually claimed that we did not need the bill because of the Federal law, and argument Ms. Garcia handily dissected.  I suppose an amalgam of all elected female Democrats would suffice.  And for now, it will have to.
