Scraping the bottom of the barrel, Progressives – their newest GOTV: “Rock the Slut Vote”

You Might Be A Slut GirlOy vay! Sluts-o-rama time again!  We’ve previously posted about the word “sluts” for a bit here (here, here, here, here, here, here), ever since Sandra Fluke decided that having others pay for those items that give her “freedom” to exercise her sexual activities (other peoples’ freedom to conscience, religious liberty, and the Right to their own Private Property not withstanding).

Well, this post by Steve should set the table for this current post, as once again, it is about voting sluts.  No, not a Slut political Party trying to be formed, or that Conservatives should be scared that Sluts are being rounded up to vote against them.  Rather, it is an aging boomer, trying to rally “sluts” a la the tired MTV ever present “Rock the Vote,” to sign up college kids to go vote against their own interests (in the long run).  I present “Rock the Slut Vote” (note the URL: WarOnWomen – catchy, eh?) with the tag line of  “We believe women who unite and vote will rock the world.”

But only if you are a slut? After the jump is a list, a la Jeff Foxworthy’s “You might be a redneck if” on who is a slut.  Yikes!

I first saw this over at Politico (reformated for here):

Nobody said political activism was easy. Just ask Susan Emry, a 56-year-old mother of two living in San Luis Obispo, Calif., who decided earlier this year to help elect progressive candidates this November.  But what’s brought her trouble isn’t her politics. It’s her branding.  The name for her initiative: “Rock the Slut Vote.”

…The website provides a litany of reasons why, politically speaking, you “might be a slut.” Such as : “If you’ve ever gone to Planned Parenthood”; “If you think being called a feminist is a compliment”; “If you don’t want your employer policing your health care”; and “What you do in your own bedroom is no one’s business.”  Slut-cred affirmed, users can then register to vote through the site.

Emry says she wants Rock the Slut Vote to be a humorous way to advance a serious message, but she also knows that the risqué name is part of the site’s appeal: “To me, Rock the Slut Vote is all about galvanizing and the shock value, to get enough attention to what was happening.”  The attention has come in, but it’s not always positive. Emry says she’s received “heavy negative reaction coming from the right, the far, far extreme right.”  “They use the most derogatory terms and, occasionally, threats even. Personal attacks. They go after your image, for instance. … Maybe I wasn’t as prepared to deal with that initially when I put up the website.”

…As for how she will vote this fall, Emry’s locked in on Obama.  “I think he is our best hope and, while there have been some disappointments over the past few years, I think he’s working in an unprecedented, difficult situation” with the Republican House and gridlock in Congress. “I do feel like he’ll have a lot more opportunity in the second term.”

Right.  You picked a word, “slut”, which is slang for a female that will pretty sleep around with any gay, showing a lack of internal morals and respect for herself (to go the ‘lowest’ rung of non-self-respecting meaning of the word) and perhaps engage in other behaviors showing a total lack of care.  Then you really expected that others were going to NOT pick on that image?  It says in the article “I’m not a likely slut.”; but if you are going to glorify such a word, did you really believe that people wouldn’t have assigned that word to you?

I also had to shake my head at her list of “You might be a slut if” and add a few thoughts of my own

You Might Be A Slut

If you are a Liberal – yup, depending on external governance and pop culture to drive your behavior
If you are a Democrat – there’s a difference!  (Hey, Republican women – you’re not sluts according to her; MSNBC’s Ed Schultz notwithstanding)
If you are an Independent – that’s a way to attract the middle – hey, join us and be a SLUT!
If you are a Republican who rejects the war on women – Most Republican women get the idea that there IS no war on women – it is simply a Democrat political phrase
If you are raising strong, independent daughters – I have no contact with mothers that tell their girls – hey, go sleep around with anything on two feet.
If you don’t go to church – of COURSE!  Go to church is one of the best ways to gain a sense of morality and internal governance.  Kinda automatically keeps you from being a SLUT.
If you remember Woodstock – attracting the OLD sluts?
If you’ve ever used contraception – it depends on WHY you used it – within the sanctity of marriage would not make you a slut (unless you are a cheating slut).
If you’ve ever been tested for an STD – back to sleeping around (which is not good for either sex)
If you voted for Hillary in 2008 – Well, isn’t THAT a whole lot of folks to insult.  Yo, Susan, ANYONE that voted for Hillary is automatically a slut?
If you teach your daughters about safe sex – not necessarily, but it seems like you are raising new Sluts for the cause….
If you don’t want your employer policing your health care – This is one of the stupidest arguments.  Healthcare is a benefit – something extra besides getting a paycheck.  The problem is folks like Susan sees it as an entitlement.  With this statement, Susan shows her willingness to have Government totally regulate companies, making them mere extensions of government.
If you’ve ever been divorced – stupid
If you’ve ever had an abortion
If you speak up when they tell you to shut up – No, this doesn’t make you a slut – it makes you either a bore, rude, or ODS.

You Might Be A Slut If You Believe

Criminalizing contraception is wrong – Words fail me…WHO is trying to criminalize contraception?  The discussion is not about criminalizing, it is about who has to pay for it.
Comprehensive, preventive women’s health care is a right – no, it is an entitlement, not a Right.  A Right is in the Constitution; you are merely demanding a hand out.
What you do in your own bedroom is no one’s business – This doesn’t make you a slut, just says you want privacy.  Please don’t haul my wallet in there with you to be forced to participate.
Your relationship with your doctor is private – Again, doesn’t make you a slut, but why do you insist that my money follow you into that exam room?
You get to make your own decisions about your body – Not with Obamacare, you don’t!
One voice can make a difference – no, this just makes you a smart person to realize this.
The war on women is real and must be stopped – Oh, it must be stopped but for a FAR different reason than for what you think.  It is not real; it is only an ideological cudgel in the Democrats never ending process to bring this country to a Socialism end.
That a vote for women’s rights is a vote for everyone’s rights – Define what a Right is?  Am sure that we’ll be back to entitlement vs a real Right.
Women who unite and vote can change the world – and so can men.
Protecting women’s rights should be a ‘single-issue vote’  – I believe you should have every right that a Man has under the Constitution and in the Bill of Rights – but no more than that.
The war on women will be settled at the ballot box – Really?  I thought the Governor of WI race was settled in 2010.  That’s worked out real well, hasn’t it?

And with that phrase of “Emry’s locked in on Obama” is no surprise – this has NEVER been about any “war on women.  This has just been about the advent of yet another Democrat special interest group – yet another constituency that says that it’s hand out for freebies provided by the sweat of other’s brows is their Right and those that refuse to go along with this are just mean and cold-hearted.  And it is electing Democrats (go here and scroll to the bottom of the page – it is ALL about turning the country Blue.

This reminded me of another example – different, but the same.  A few years ago, this behavior was modeled by Laconia Daily Sun reporter Michael Kitch on what turned out to be an argument as his Progressive side burst out of his chest on the topic of fiscal town management.  In short, he maintained (much to my aghast) that we in my hamlet were those cold-hearted people because we managed our municipal budgets well but wouldn’t tax our citizens more to send it to others that needed it more (like California, Illinois – where their elected officials mis-spent all that high tax money and have run up huge deficits).  His ire was that I refused to acknowledge that there were still people who were in need and it was beside the point that those they had elected had failed was entirely beside the point – their needs still had to be filled!

My argument was “and I would send MY money to those fiscally irresponsible to be wasted as well is…..why?”.  But again, it truly was illustrative of the Progressive mantra: it is the INTENTIONS that matter, and not the RESULT.  If fact, the result is pretty much immaterial – it’s just the outward perception of caring that’s important.
