Another Summer of Our Health Care Discontent

World Health Organization- organizing for socialized medicineIn all likelihood the US Supreme court will deal a mortal blow to Obama-care, the Patient Affordable Health Care and Socialism for All or Something Act before they go on recess for the summer.  Progressives being who they are, and seeing as this is an election year, will only view this as another opportunity to flog opponents and to pontificate in favor of whatever elements of the ‘plan’ they were told to tell you about the first time around.

But these are details that, as it turns out, were based on an ancient study (2000) by the World Health Organizers in the WHO whose mission it was to make socialized medicine look good.  So it behooves us to gird our loins with the armor of truth; that this major source of all those Health Care talking points is a fraud.

According to Scott Atlas, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, professor of radiology and chief of neurobiology at the Stanford University Medical Center, the primary origin of Obama-care, American-Health-Care-is-too-expensive-and-fails-to-deliver rhetoric is The World Health Report 2000, a slanted political hit piece on free market health care, issued by the World Health Organization, which Atlas has dubbed, ‘The Worst Study Ever.”  The very study upon which so many lies were piled to justify the train wreck of Obama-care.

Atlas quotes Obama from June 2009

“As I think many of you are aware, for all of this spending, more of our citizens are uninsured, the quality of our care is often lower, and we aren’t any healthier. In fact, citizens in some countries that spend substantially less than we do are actually living longer than we do.”

This comes as a result of the 2000 WHO report, which might not have be as deceptive had it not already been challenged repeatedly before Democrats repeatedly repeated the falsehoods ad-nauseum during the lynching of American Health Care.

In fact, World Health Report 2000 was an intellectual fraud of historic consequence—a profoundly deceptive document that is only marginally a measure of health-care performance at all. The report’s true achievement was to rank countries according to their alignment with a specific political and economic ideal—socialized medicine—and then claim it was an objective measure of “quality.”

The entire report was tailored to achieve a desired outcome.  Countries like Italy and Spain, with centralized controls, long standing complaints from their own citizens, and a history of questionable outcomes, and which had ranked as two of the worst systems in all of Europe, came in number two and number seven in the WHO global study.  Not because they were good, but because the survey was designed to make them look that way.

One of the biggest talking points during the Obama-care “debate’ was life expectancy versus cost.  The US spent far too much for the kind of dismal outcomes reported., we were told. (Right then and there, everyone should have been suspicious.  It was the first time any Democrat ever complained about the dismal result of too much spending.)    The World Health Organizers worst study ever had ranked the US 42nd globally in Life Expectancy.

Again from Scott Atlas…

In their book, The Business of Health, Robert L. Ohsfeldt and John E. Schneider of the University of Iowa demonstrated that this finding was a gross misrepresentation. WHO actually included immediate deaths from murder or fatal high-speed motor-vehicle accidents in their assessment, as if an ideal health-care system could turn back time to undo car crashes and prevent homicides.

When you remove instantaneous causes of death for which the quality of the Health Care system plays no part, unless we are now attributing to them resurrection powers which they are failing to employ adequately, the United States ranks first in the world at 76.9 years.  The US was not 42nd or 19th, or any thing else.  It was number one.  But this was never reported or cited.  Never.

If World Health Report 2000 had simply been issued and forgotten, it would still be a case study in how to produce a wretched and unreliable piece of social science masquerading as legitimate research. That it served so effectively as a catalyst for unprecedented legislation is evidence of something more disturbing. The executive and legislative branches of the United States government used WHO’s document as an implicit Exhibit A to justify imposing radical changes to America’s health-care system, even in the face of objections from the American people. To blur the line between politics and objective analysis is to do violence to them both.

The American media was, of course, absent here.  And while most of us suspected the wrongness of it all, the lefts obedient zombies and their single-minded goal to raise up a centrally planned health system on the foundation of a convenient lie, for the purpose of achieving a solely political end, continue to repeat the false narratives constructed on “science” with no science in it at all.

Sounds a lot like the ‘science” of global warming.

And anyone notice that the snake on the WHO logo is sticking out its forked tongue?

So prepare yourselves.   The lies will return in short order, and it will be up to you to dispel them.  The US may spend more, but we have the best outcomes on the globe.  If we want to make that better, great, but centralizing patient care will only make things worse.  and that’s a fact.
