Gambling On Our Future

A few days ago I wrote this (among other things) about the risk of bringing casinos to New Hampshire…

Years of Casino ‘revenue’ in Concord would inevitably create the opportunity for entrenched incumbency and make every race about money, and who can spend it.   The special interest money would favor those who support Casino interests and central planners, reducing the citizen legislature to a farce that would inevitably retool itself into a smaller professional body of politicians that is easier to manipulate and buy off.  Something the Democrat party In New Hampshire has been after for years.

In March of 2010, I wrote this

It’s not about what everyone else is doing.  And it’s not about easy money.  The problem with gambling isn’t even really about the societal risks of gambling to New Hampshire.  It is a political gamble where the people allow outside influence and money with which they cannot possibly compete to drive policy that will affect their lives, and those of their children forever.  If you prostitute your government out to the gambling lobby it won’t be your government anymore.

In 2010 I was talking about the risk created by the  Democrat Party agenda–we need gambling to pay for more spending.   It’s 2012 now, and the risk is the same, even if it is Republicans claiming we need gambling because we should be free to choose to gamble if we want.

So here’s a question you really ought to consider.

How does seeking expanded or Casino gambling for the latter negate the likelihood of it being used or abused at some future date for the former?

(There is a hearing today in Concord at 1pm on an expanded gambling bill.)
