Dropping The Ball On Municipal Elections

While Democrat’s and unions focus on success in places that are not New Hampshire, the Granite States voters–the ones who go out and vote–continue to tell us that cutting budgets, managing the spending, and lowering taxes are the issues that are important to them.

But yesterday’s election told us something even more important.  That there is not enough focus on running candidates to challenge incumbents in municipal elections.  The number of contests that were no contest is far too high.  And it is a blind spot that the liberty and freedom Republicans and Libertarians need to deal with.

Shrinking state government, and returning control to the local level, is a pointless endeavor if the people in control at the local level are all tax and spenders.   And we seem more than willing to concede that space.  The day before the Manchester filing deadline there were scores of seats uncontested or open.

No serious state wide strategy focused on low taxes and small government can give up that kind of real estate.

There are dozens of liberty and freedom groups operating in New Hampshire.  Is there one that can begin a campaign to recruit candidates for municipal office?  There is clearly a need.
