New Hampshire Exceptional, Yet Again.

Compare what most Americans actually want from their elected officials to the Democrat party agenda here in New Hampshire.  They are opposites.  Democrats need more of your money, you want to give them less.  You want smaller, more affordable government, less red tape, fewer bureaucrats and their meddling.  Democrats want to grow government, tell you what to do, how to do it, where you can or cannot do things; they are the busy-body party, telling you how to live, and then making you pay for the privilege of their expert opinion on how you need to live your life.

On the larger stage, you have the same aspirations as at the state level. CongressNH State Capitols was supposed to stop the spending and debt and roll back the over-regulation, but with a Democrat Senate and Mr. Obama in the White House, nothing meaningful could ever get past them.  Having the House is great for stopping  the left wing destruction, but it is more an exercise in optics with no hope for meaningful reform, without new leadership in the Senate and Oval Office.

Take note and take heed. For a while there it seemed like the Obamacrats were following the NHDP’s Buckley/Sullivan Blue Print.  Spend like crazy and then insist you have to raise taxes (even during a recession).  We had a democrat majority of out of control left wing tax and spenders, accumulating debt and structural deficits.  Teri ‘Billion Dollar Deficit’ Norelli, Sylvia ‘Tax and Spend’ Larsen, and The Teflon John "I lied" Lynch, put us on a precipice.   But you, the voter, responded at a crucial moment, and our Republican legislature did the very thing you have since been asking congress to do.

BALANCE THE BUDGET by reducing the reach of government.  It’s not easy.  But you asked and they answered.  And despite the socialist caterwauling, they did it as responsibly as it could be done. Remember.  The left will always try to make cuts impossible.  Democrats do not believe that what you earn is your income.  Nor do they believe you capable of making the proper spending choices.  So it is theirs to spend and you only get to keep what they do not need.  And they always need more of your money.

The Republican majority is just the opposite.  They know who earns that money, and they know who deserves to decide how to spend it.  So they tried to balance the state budget without taking more money out of your already strapped pockets.  They did it while rolling back excessive and unnecessary fees, giving you back some money for a change.  They did it without adding debt or imagining revenue that did not exist–that is imagining debt for some future legislature; they did not  kick an ever larger can down the road for someone else to worry about like the Democrats before them.  There were no accounting tricks and no one-time money was used.  And they cut back on the excess and abuse of senseless government expansion for the mere sake of expansion.  (Democrats like to grow government just to add donors, also known as public union employees. Just another class of persons beholden to them and the taxpayer dole, financed by you, so they can win more elections.)

Stopping the spending and the out of control growth was and is exactly what you need and want from your US congress, but cannot yet achieve with a Democrat Senate and a Democrat President.  And you will never get it as long as the left controls any those parts of your Federal government.  So you need to stop electing them to office, or you will never see smaller government, lower taxes, less spending, less debt, or more job growth.  Democrats don’t know how to do any of hose things.

So keep that in mind.

Be happy New Hampshire.  Your elected officials have begun to undo the wreckage of the Democrat Taxandspendaholics.  But do not forget what you wanted, or that you actually managed to elect someone willing to actually do it.  Self control is not easy.  A Government with any signs of it is even more rare.  Your current legislature is exceptional.  Another New Hampshire advantage you can and should be proud of.
