Bloomberg News reports on food inflation and the need for a bumper crop in the US this year to slow a price climb on corn that has put millions into poverty. But what is putting that much needed crop in question?
Of the grains, corn “is the most worrisome,” Abbassian said in a statement. “We would need above-average, if not record, yields in the U.S.,” however, “plantings so far have been delayed considerably due to cool and wet conditions on the ground,” he said.
Cool wet conditions.
You do understand that if we stopped stuffing corn into everything from soda to gasoline, we would not have the food inflation problem? And why are we stuffing ethanol into cars? It’s not global cooling is it?
But imagine how hard it will be to feed anyone or put corn in cars if they are right and putting corn in gas does cool the planet. Either way we have a supply problem. Personally I’d rather risk being warm and fed, than cold, broke, and starving.
