They think us all Rambos that have to be “handled”

An untold story of the chaos at the Tuscon tragedy of a civilian’s gun – unused.

We have covered the Tuscon tragedy from the political viewpoint and how the Left let loose volley after volley of verbiage trying to pin the actions of a lunatic on political philosophy (and trying to pin it on the Right and the TEA Party movement).  Of course, the major mainstream media types (who, as we know, lean Left enough to need crutches for support if they weren’t already sitting down reading their teleprompters) have run to their support.

And as we, along with most of the Right, have refused to go along with this nonsense.  As I mentioned before, it has almost been like the WW II Turkey Shoot (or the Gulf War one) because while Leftward pundits and politicians have all "decried" incivility, even we at GraniteGrok have found it far to easy to find concrete examples of them pulling the pins and throwing their grenades (and this latest stretch of liberal rhetoric is just that – verbal handgrenades).

And thus, having wasted their "first wave" of a line of attack, the flanking move is onto the second target – gun control.

Why? They frankly don’t trust their fellow citizens.  They also believe, because of their belief in Big Government, that we all should outsource our well betterment and safety to Government (after all, THEY are the professionals).  Certainly, anyone that reads the ‘Grok on a regular basis, we believe that to be utter nonsense as well.  While we do operate and live in communities of others, we do not give up the sense of self-reliance that should be primary as a basic American philosophical underpinning.  We do believe that we are responsible for ourselves, including the basic right of self-defense.

Now, combine their misguided idea that Government will instantly be available at their time of physical threatening with this: their shared idea that once a gun is place into their fellow citizens hands, we lose all sanity and rationality and become nothing more than grunting Rambos whose only urges are to pull the triggers and find more ammo.

Yet, nothing could be further from the truth – the vast majority of us who use and carry firearms see it as a huge responsibility.  We would no more use…

them for violence than we would just randomly take our cars down to the local Fourth of July parade and take out the assembled crowd. In fact, we have a PERFECT example of civil behavior, of moral clarity, and of perfect judgment of someone who coolly decided not to use his firearm.

In fact, from BigJournalism comes this story about a citizen, Joe Zemundo, that ran TOWARDS the gunshots (emphasis mine):

“I heard gunshots, I ran outside to help. You know, I was carrying a gun and I would have shot him…I, I almost did.”

“Why didn’t you,” Geraldo asked.

“They’d already had a-hold of him, and there was a lot of people around him, and I wasn’t going to cause any more collateral damage or scare anybody any further than they needed to be scared.” Joe replied. “I felt like I could hold him down and wait for police, and it wasn’t my responsibility to end his life.

Let’s let that one sink in for a second. He had a gun. He was licensed to carry. He made a split-second evaluation of the situation. He made the right choice. No going all Sly-Rocky-Rambo on the guy. No shooting innocent bystanders. No making the situation worse. Just a responsible citizen, trying to help, and doing the right thing...

… But stop and think. Do you really believe anybody would run toward gunfire if they weren’t armed, and thought they could help?

The Left would have you believe that no one has sufficient judgment to properly own, service, use, and NOT use a firearm.  Because of their philosophy that we are really wards of the State, they feel comfortable in "taking the guns away from children" – for that is how many of them see the rest of us.  Remember, the base philosophy of Progressivism is that life is too complicated, too large, and too chaotic to live on our own without the guiding hands of "the experts" that are to guide society.

Socialism is nothing more than outsourcing your responsibilities to Government.  Progressives are there to make sure you do.

Freedom?
