Let’s “Pivot”, shall we?

"Now that I’m done trying to bring the United States culture and economy to its knees, why don’t we focus on jobs and the economy for the remainder of my term?" — President Obama.

Fortunately, I believe most thinking Americans see right through this nonsense.

With Democrats in full control of Congress, Obama and the rest of his Evil Axis (Pelosi, Reid) were more interested in furthering their social agenda through the veil of "jobs" and "stimulating", than they were in sensible, realistic, and viable economic policies that would pull our country further from the brink it continues to toy with (policies such as spending cuts, debt reduction, marginal and corporate tax rate cuts).

Now that Republicans are about to take the House back, the spirit of "cooperation" and "bi-partisanship" are in the air, and Obama is starting to sound (pathetically) like the nascent "fiscally responsible" Paul Hodes in the 2010 campaign season.  If he had a tail, it would be indignantly tucked between his legs.

Obama is even trying to insinuate that "the American people are driving the car" (a metaphor he has used numerous times), in order to set the wedge he intends to drive between the Republicans and the voters who put THEM in the driver’s seat in November.

The Liberal and Progressive rhetoric will now suddenly turn to emotional, self-righteous ranting, advocating for the disenfranchised under-classes, the evaporating "middle-class", and illegal immigrants.  As glad as I am that Republicans are about to take back the House, I’m not looking forward to seeing and hearing the Democrats retake this posture.

As far as being "past the crisis" and "pivoting", Obama is a master at setting the tone and terminology of the debate.  Unfortunately, with that one press conference, many people now actually believe that we ARE past the crisis – but we are not – this is likely the calm before the storm.

  • Unemployment remains at or above 10%
  • Europe is in turmoil, as it tries to implement austerity measures in many EU states.  Its people are revolting and the area could fully ignite in the Spring of 2011, negatively affecting our economy
  • If our import consumption doesn’t consistently pick up soon, and if we continue to monetize (finance our own) our debt, China may decide to stop financing our deficit-spending-induced debt, which will deal a serious blow to the confidence of the US economy, potentially putting it into a nosedive or (worse) tailspin.

So, as you can see, we are not on our way out of the tunnel, as Obama wants you to think and wants to take credit for – all to save face for the fact that his social agenda days are over – he simply wants you to think that it’s HIS decision they are over, not the demand of American voters.

Keep talking to your friends and family about this.  Remind them that NOTHING has changed, except that Republicans (with many Conservatives in the ranks) are taking over the house, and must spend much of their time FIXING what the Democrats have "accomplished" since 2008.  We have not miraculously "turned the corner" and will still be in dire straits until we get Federal spending under control over the next year or two.
