Sullivan's Mea Culpa - Granite Grok

Sullivan’s Mea Culpa

Yesterday some of us were treated to the palate cleansing of former NHDP chair Kathy ‘Lawsuit’ Sullivan.  She took the opportunity to fill her allotted Union Leader real estate with a "reform agenda for democrats."  If you get tired of shoving broken glass in your eye check it out.

The thesis seems to be that the left must reconnect with voters, and admit that government is too big.  I am reminded of 2008 when the democrats told us the deficit was too big.  The nation elected them, and they tripled that deficit.  Note to Kathy: they might not believe you are sincere.

Ditto on the lip service to ending generational debt and standing strong for individual liberties.  We were promised ethics and pay-go, then got neither.  So if the entire ‘reform’ spins on liberal progressive tax and spenders turning into socially liberal small-government libertarians, and "the real fiscal conservatives" to quote Sullivan directly, two years may not be enough time. Twenty might not be enough.

Monty Pelerin at American Thinker frames the broader problem nicely.

Republicans were tossed out because the did not govern according to their principles.  Democrats were tossed out in 2010 because they did govern by their principles.

So nothing Sullivan suggests anywhere can be taken seriously either because it runs afoul of the fundamental nature of democrats belief in the role of government, (or directly contradicts the evidence) or begs a broader question.  Why, with four years of complete majority rule in State government, did you wait until now to think of these reforms and who besides a democrat would even believe you?
