WMUR 9 here in NH – Committment 2010

For those outside of NH, WMUR is pretty much the ONLY TV over-the-air broadcast station of note, so it gets watched.  They have their version of the obligatory political series that all stations run during this election season; they call theirs Committment 2010.

Tonite, they had the four Republican Gubernatorial candidates on

  • Jack Kimball
  • John Stephen
  • Karen Testerman
  • Frank Emiro

and the two Democrat Second Congressional District candidates on:

  • Katrina Swett
  • Ann McLane Kuster

After watching WMUR’s political spots during the evening news, I took away two thoughts / observations:

  • Did WMUR deliberately heat up the studio and do a bad lighting job on the Republicans?  Each was red-faced (heat) and their faces were "shiny"; a combination of bad lighting AND a lack of detail on the makeup (heck, did they even OFFER makeup?  Or another case of being bad deliberately – sorta the TV version of the JournOList?)
  • It is clear that the Swett and Kuster are battling it out to be "THE Progressive" in their race.  If that is so true, why the heck did they sound JUST LIKE  REPUBLICANS ??

You know, it does LOOKS like Swett and Kuster are just trying to prove NH GOP Chair Sununu right, as he has said for quite some time that:

"Democrats will sound like Republicans during the campaign and then govern like the true Liberals they are".

Is this just their standard tactic we saw, or is it that they are so truly scared of the TEA Party here in NH that they can’t really say what they think?  Or once again, do they know that if they REALLY show their "Progressive face" to the general public, they’re toast?

Some really strong convictions, those Democrats, if the above that’s the truth…

Perhaps it is time for the ‘Grok to go to some of the Democrat meetings, a la doing the Citizen Journalist job, that the MSM isn’t doing:

We record, we post up, you watch, and you decide!"

Or will they toss me out on by my ears?  Do they have the courage of their convictions to say EXACTLY what they will do?  Certainly, the ‘Grok has a sufficient amount of video to REALLY keep Republicans to account – but who is doing that on the Democrat side?

Anyone?
