Character Bass-assination

by Steve MacDonald

Bass Master CharlieSo how does this work for Charlie Bass? Back in 2005 C-Bass lead the school in an effort to get Tom DeLay to step down as Majority leader because of possible connections to Lobbyist Jack Abramoff. That’s not exactly a way to instill confidence or support in the guy.  Well the DoJ just announced that DeLay is innocent of any wrong doing.

So in the time it took DoJ to declare DeLay innocent, Chalie Bass was term limited by the electorate, wandered off into a lucrative career as a political consultant with NH-01 candidate Rich Ashooh’s older brother, (among other lobbyist/slash consulting work), then wandered back to chase after the seat from which he took buckets of money from DeLay before turning on him for political points in the run up to the election year in which he still lost his seat.

Cut and run moderate political insider with bad judgement?  That’s a winning combination for New Hampshire. And if he’s so willing to turn on a guy who gave him money how much chance do you think John and Jane Q. GraniteStater have?

Not much.

Charlie wrote me a letter asking for support claiming he has a proven record of cutting spending and taxes. Maybe the cutting taxes part, but he was part of the W. Bush “Social Conservative” caball that raised federal spending 2-3 times over inflation when they were in charge. He also didn’t mention his recent job as a Lobbyist. I find it hard to feel enthusiastic for a big spender like Charlie.

Charlie Bass is one of 535 reasons for Washington DC is corruption capital. If we want to reclaim our country we must rid of people like him from Congress.
Charlie, get an honest job just like the rest of us.

    Steve,
Tom Daley was a disgrace to the Republican Party, quite aside from his legal issues. House Republicans had a rule in place that a member of leadership should step aside if under indictment. When Delay was indicted, he tried to change to rules. Bass was the first Republican to stand up and say that House Republicans should live up to their own standards.
Considering that this site has taken plenty of shots at Bass for supposedly being part of the problem of the Delay-led Congress, it seems a little silly that you’re now complaining that he was too harsh on poor old Tom Delay.
You want to criticize his voting record? Fine, fair game. But slamming Bass for standing up the people that screwed up the GOP Congress seems a little desperate. You seem to forget that Bass and the Republican Congress actually balanced the budget. Then Delay ousted Gingrich and got Hastert in as Speaker and screwed everything up. I shed no tears for Tom Delay, and neither should you.
