Mr. Krugman, your Nobel is in economics, not politics... - Granite Grok

Mr. Krugman, your Nobel is in economics, not politics…

And you are getting schooled by another professor of economics from George Mason University (emphasis mine):

Open Letter to Paul Krugman

Dear Prof. Krugman:

In your May 14 blog-post “Why Libertarianism Doesn’t Work, Part N” you attempt to tar libertarianism as being an ideology that “requires incorruptible politicians.”

You’re deeply confused.  One foundation of libertarianism is the observation that no profession is as infested with corruption as is politics.

The political ideology dependent upon politicians being wise and saintly isn’t libertarianism but, rather, your own – namely, “Progressivism.”  You and your ilk unceasingly plead for politicians to be entrusted with ever-more power and money, while libertarians – understanding that politicians aren’t the saints that you presume them to be – oppose your efforts.

Your accusing libertarianism of requiring “incorruptible politicians” makes as much sense as a faith-healer accusing science-based medicine of requiring flawlessly effective witch-doctors.

Sincerely,
Donald J. Boudreaux

If a majority of our politicians were as wise and saintly as Progressives say, then why are so many in jail?  Or, why aren’t they so wise as to "live their budgets within our means"?

Look, one of the biggest Progressive thrusts has been to have the State provide for our needs – Medicare and Social Security are falling under their own fiscal weight and demographic changes.  Go to one of the biggest Progressive states in the nation – California.  What’s the news there?  That the Governator is about to pull the plug on the CA welfare system – he’s done run out of other peoples money:

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has compared his state’s financial crisis to that of Greece and called for scrapping the state welfare system to close a $19.1 billion budget gap. He said the US state, with an economy that ranks as the eighth largest in the world, faced the same budget deficit crisis as eurozone countries such as Greece, Spain and Ireland. . . . Democratic State Senate President Darrell Steinberg said his party, which controls both chambers of the legislature, could not support Schwarzenegger.

“The cuts are absolutely unacceptable,” Steinberg said, adding that instead of slashing spending Schwarzenegger should delay business tax breaks

And the Progressive, Steinberg, keeps acting like there is money….where DOES he think the money is going to come from….Obama has run out as well – or rather, is running the rest of US out of money….

Stick the fork in it, Progressives, you’re on the tipping point of the cliff.  Only problem is that since you are SO collective minded, you just can’t do it by yourselves – you gotta drag the rest of us with you….
